PARISH AND COMMUNITY LIFE

Project St. Nick Project St. Nick is a fundraiser that will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019. This Fundraiser is an event for families and the community to come learn about the real St. Nicholas through fun games, activities & crafts, and help serve others in our community just as St. Nick did. You can also get pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. For those who choose to order pizza, dinner will start at 5:15 and Project St. Nick’s festivities will commence from 6-8pm. Registration for this event can be found at www.stamericigh.com and is limited. Please consider donating to this great event. The sponsorship underwrites the cost of putting on Project St. Nick. Net proceeds will go to cover costs of Bible Buddies (Parish childcare) so that this ministry can be offered at no cost to parishioners. You can donate through Faith direct a one-time gift (please note your donation is for Project St. Nick), drop it off in the Parish office or order off of our Amazon wish list. We need all Amazon wish list items by December 2nd.

Our Office will be CLOSED Wednesday, November 27th at Noon and will reopen

Monday, December 2nd at 9:00am

Dear St. Angela Merici Parish,

We wanted to thank you, our beloved parish, for your unbelievable support for our daughter, Zelie, and our whole family. After 202 days in the hospital, two open-heart surgeries, five other operations, and several scary infections, our warrior is finally home, praise God!

For seven months, this wonderful parish has brought us meals, prayed for Zelie's health and healing, and helped us in many other ways. You have truly been the hands and feet of Christ and encouraged us in the hope and love of Christ throughout this trial. We are blown away by your mercy, kindness, and selflessness and are so grateful to be a part of this community.

May the Lord bless each of you richly, and we cannot wait to introduce you to Zelie. Thank you endlessly for your prayers for our beloved daughter.

Peace and blessings, Daniel and Marie Murray

THE SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE

Today, in prayer and songs of praise we celebrate the feast of the King who is and was and is to come; Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. The soldiers taunted Jesus as He hung on the cross by saying “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.” Precisely because Jesus Is

the One true King—King of the Jews, King of the Universe, King of You and Me—He didn’t, He doesn’t, save Himself. He saves the Jews, the Universe, and us. Still, are you surprised that the image portraying Christ the King in the Gospel today is that of Jesus hanging on the cross? First, there is something perhaps about royalty that we may resist, and then the juxtaposition of it with suffering and humility isn’t something we may gravitate toward. For either or both of those reasons perhaps, a couple of weeks ago in more than one Catholic Church the response to Psalm 145 was changed from I will praise your name my King and my God to I will praise your name my Holy One my God. In every age there are images of Christ that reflect the prevailing culture and speak to the needs and desires of the people. These same titles and images continue to shift and evolve in the spiritual quest. Because our Church in her wisdom continues to end each liturgical year with the celebration of the feast of Christ the King, beyond the truth it announces and the solid scriptural sign-posts it provides, it is important to ask what it says about our culture and what does it have to offer to your own spiritual quest? Especially as Americans, we resist the idea of royalty, unless it means us, or we have a part in conferring it. The very idea of Christ the King includes Jesus not only as victor, but as ruler and judge. Many of us squirm in correction, resist surrender, we avoid humbly bowing down—even to God. Thinking ourselves more king than He perhaps, we bristle when our authority, our right to name what is right, is challenged. We would prefer that the kingship with Jesus into which we were baptized involved more royal affirmation than humble service. These culturally supported orientations may compromise your vision of the Kingship of Jesus on the cross. In today’s Gospel the criminal on the cross beside Jesus was one of the very few to recognize Him as King that day. If you reject or cannot see the king in Jesus there, it is unlikely you will be able to see the king in Him when He appears again, bringing final justice to the world. Our mocked King on the cross, who chose us to be kings alongside Him, showed us through humility and obedi-ence what real love looks like, so that we can be saved from the destruction of selfishness and pride. On this feast of Christ the King, as the liturgical year closes, may our shared humble kingship inspire us each day to make visible the love of the Kingdom of God. kathleen⁺AMDG⁺

We also provided $950 in assistance to families residing in other St. Vincent de Paul Conference/parishes. Thank You!

SIMBANG GABI 2019 - ADVENT NOVENA MASS

Please come and join us for our annual parish community celebration on Fri-day, December 20, 2019. We will start at 6:30 p.m. with the singing of carols and mass at 7:00 p.m. celebrated by Rev. John Cahoon and Fr. Joy Thomas and a community fellowship after. Simbang Gabi [Advent Novena Mass in

English] is a Filipino Catholic tradition of celebrating a novena of Advent Masses to heighten the prepara-tion of the faithful for the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. This spiritual experience enables the faithful to joyfully anticipate the coming of the Messiah to their parish communities and to the whole world. Imposter priest email/texting scams In recent months, there have been numerous reports in Texas of in-dividuals impersonating a parish priest and soliciting do-nations – normally in the form of gift cards – from mem-bers of their congregation. The Texas Attorney issued a related consumer alert in regards to these scammers. In an effort to minimize the impact of these fraudulent actions, pastors are encouraged to remind their membership that priests/churches would never make such appeals to the parish community. Please ad-vise parishioners to notify the church office immediately if they receive any unfamil-iar donation requests.
