St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Today’s Readings First Reading — Whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent looked at the bronze serpent, they lived (Numbers 21:4b-9). Psalm — Do not forget the works of the Lord! (Psalm 78). Second Reading — Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped (Philippians 2:6-11). Gospel — God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that those who believe might have eternal life (John 3:13-17). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, Interna-tional Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.

Today is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, September 14th. I had to look up exaltation, and it means to raise high, to elevate by praise: glorify. The Responsorial Psalm is, “Do not forget the works of the Lord!” (Psalm 78:1bc-2,34-34,36-37,38) The Gospel according to St. John tells us that “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”

ONE SOLITARY LIFE (Author Unknown)

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in still another village, where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty. Then for three years he was an itinerant preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a house. He didn't go to college. He never traveled 200 miles from the place where he was born. He did none of these things one usually associates with greatness. He had no credentials but himself. He was only 33 when public opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. When he was dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on earth. When he died, he was laid to rest in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Twenty centuries have come and gone, and today he is the central figure of the human race, the leader of mankind's progress. All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on earth as much as that One Solitary Life.

We are all so very blessed to have Him in our lives. Lives of questions, love, service, prayer and accountabil-ity and lives in which we try to be the best that we can be.

Serving Him Together, Barb A.

September 13-14, 2014 Dear St. Ann Parish Family,

Safety First! Special thanks to our Lansing Fire Department, who will be bringing their Fire Safety Trailer to our school parking lot for our K-2 stu-dents on Monday. Lansing’s Finest will give our stu-dents home safety tips and practice in exiting safely in case of a home fire. We pray for our fire department, police department, first responders and our Nation’s mil-itary daily.

Smile, Picture Day is Wednesday Our students are usually pretty happy campers, but on Wednesday they will bring their extra big smiles for Picture Day. We’ll start with our little ones and work our way up to junior high, concluding with photographing our leaders of the school. I hope my hair cooperates.

Progress Reports Thursday Yes, you read correctly…it’s already progress report time! While students’ grades are online on PowerSchool, we send home a mid-term progress report to all students. I like to think of it as “half-time.” We are all works in progress; it’s excellent data to assess how our students are doing and what areas need improvement.

High School Recruitment Day―Thursday Area Cath-olic high schools within the Archdiocese of Chicago will send representatives to St. Ann School to give our 7th and 8th graders information about continuing their Catholic education. It’s always nice to see our Alumni come back for these presentations to inform our students about what lies ahead.

8th Graders to Learn Team-Building Skills at Irons Oaks―Friday Our leaders of the school will venture out to the beautiful forest preserves of Irons Oaks in Olympia Fields to participate in team building skills. Slathered in bug spray and armed with sunscreen, the Class of 2015 will engage in various activities to puzzle, challenge, and then unite.

I leave you this week with Rough-rider Moments…snapshots of our school family at work.

If you know of someone that would like to join our school fami-ly, please spread the good word of St. Ann. God bless our Parish! Serving the Lord with Gladness,

Mrs. Bonnie Hall, Principal
