St. Matthew

Son of Alphaeus, he lived at Capernaum on Lake Gennesaret. He

was a Roman tax collector, a position equated with collaboration with the

enemy by those from whom he collected taxes. Jesus’ contemporaries were surprised to see the Christ with a traitor, but Jesus explained that he had

come “not to call the just, but sinners.”

Matthew’s Gospel is given pride of place in the canon of the New Testament, and was

written to convince Jewish readers that their anticipated Messiah had come in the person of Jesus. He preached among the Jews for 15 years; his audiences may have included

the Jewish enclave in Ethiopia, and places in the East.

ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY

Sister Rosalinda Navarro: Sister Rosalinda started serving our Parish as a Faith Formation Clerk, in a volunteer role, on August 13, 2018. For the previous 4 years, she has worked alongside Sr. Marcela at the St. Charles Borromeo Parish helping to oversee and coordinate religious education programs. She also assisted with the formation of Parish Lay Ministers and Catechists. Sister Rosalinda is working on finishing up her Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies, she has Full Catechetical certification, and a diploma in Theology from the Archdiocesan School of Theology in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Although Spanish is her native language, Sister understands and speaks English very well. Sister Rosalinda received her perpetual vows as a “Discípulas de Jesús” (Disciples of Jesus Sisters) in 1999. Due to her extensive experience working with children in her guitar-playing Music Ministry, she may be employed by the school to help as a Teacher’s Aide working with the Pre-K 3 classroom and is already planning on working with the elementary CCE students as well. She is a Eucharistic Minister and can assist with Exposition and Reposing of the Most Blessed Sacrament. We are excited to welcome Sister Rosalinda into the St. Anne Family and we ask that you to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

WELCOME SISTER ROSALINDA

ST. ANNE CATHOLIC CHURCH—SEPTEMBER 16, 2018—24TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

“At the Name of Jesus: A Holy Name Retreat.”

Those close to the Passionists know that our Founder, St. Paul of the Cross, enjoined his vowed religious to recite the following passage every time they gather for communal prayer:

“At the Name of Jesus every knee must bend In the heavens, on earth and under the earth

And every tongue proclaims, To the glory of God the Father, that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

St. Paul’s Letter to the Philippians 2: 6-11. Join us on retreat and discover what it means to love not just the place but “the Name above all names” and where Christ, in His love, leads each of us along the road to holiness.

Lord, you are Holy above all others, and all of the strength that I need is in your hands. I am not asking, Lord, that you take this trial away. Instead, I simply ask that Your will be done in my life. Whatever that means, that is what I want. But I admit that it's hard, Lord. Sometimes I feel like I can't go on. The pain and the fear are too much for me, and I know that I don't have the strength on my own to get through this. I know that I can come to you, Jesus, and that you will hear my prayer. I know that it is not your intent to bring me to this point just to leave me in the wilderness alone. Please, Lord, give me the strength that I need to face today. I don't have to worry about tomorrow. If you just give me the strength that I need today that is all I need. Keep me from sinning during this trial. Instead, help me to keep my eyes on you. You are the Holy Lord, and all of my hope rests in you. Thank you for hearing my prayer. In Jesus' name. Amen.

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time Remembering that absolutely everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God. “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34) When we truly believe that all we have is a gift from God, then we must be willing to give up some things so that we can share our blessings as God intended. Living a stewardship lifestyle means not only being responsible for our own life, but the

lives of others as well.
