MASS INTENTIONS / INTENCIONES DE LA SEMANA

LITURGICAL MINISTER FOR / MINISTROS LITURGICOS PARA 5/4/19-5/5/19

The first reading shows us that the apostles’ preaching of the Resurrection was accompanied by tremendous signs. The Resurrection, in other words, gives rise to a community of those who both believe and proclaim it, and bring its power to the world. Thomas doubted the victory of life over death. Where was he the first Easter night? Scripture does not tell us, except to say that he was not with the other apostles, to whom the Lord appeared. Maybe Thomas was out looking for the Lord! After all, if he was the kind of person who had to “see for himself,” and had heard the announcement from the women that morning that they had seen the Lord on the road, maybe he thought that he could go out on the same road and find him! It was only when Thomas reunited himself with the community that he, too, saw the Lord. Today, we are that community of faith, bringing the world to understand that the destiny of the human person is life, not death, and that there is only one who holds the keys of death. He is the Lord of our lives, our freedom, and our choices. He is the Risen One!

La primera lectura nos muestra que la predicación sobre la Resurrección que hacen los Apóstoles venía acompañada por señales tremendas. La Resurrección, en otras palabras, levanta de entre los muertos, a una comunidad que la predica y proclama entre los hombres, y trae su portento y su fuerza al mundo. Tomás dudó de la victoria de la vida sobre la muer-te. ¿En Dónde se encontraba él la primera noche de la Pascua de Resurrección? La Escritura no nos da cuenta de ello, excepto para decir que él no estaba con los demás apóstoles a quienes el Señor se apareció. Quizás Tomás se hallaba afuera buscando al Señor! Después de todo, si él era el tipo de persona que tenía que “ver por él mismo”, y había escu-chado el anuncio de las mujeres que habían visto al Señor ésa mañana en la vera del camino, a lo mejor él creyó que podría salir al mismo camino y encontrárselo! Y así, sólo se perdió de ser testigo de la resurrección del Señor. Fue sólo hasta que Tomás se volvió a reunir con la comunidad, que pudo él también testificarlo con sus ojos y palparlo con sus manos. Hoy día, nosotros somos ésa comunidad de fe, trayendo entendimiento a todo el mundo, de que el destino de la persona humana es la vida, no la muerte, y que no hay más que Uno sólo quien posee las llaves del Hades. El es el Señor de nuestras vidas, de nuestra libertad y de nuestras elecciones. Él es el Resucitado!
