A LITTLE FAITH Today our readings are about faith, frustration, and how
much is enough. Habakkuk is a complainer having an argu-
ment with God. Timothy is encouraging a community chal-
lenged by cowardice and the apostles want more faith than
they have. Things aren’t happening fast enough for any of
them or for us. All of them and we want God to do some-
thing sooner rather than later and we want God to give us a
reason to believe that it will all work out. What does God
do? God puts it back on them—and us—telling Habakkuk
to describe the world he wants; telling the apostles to do
more than the expected. Doing more with less is a familiar
phrase today and a reminder that a little faith may be
enough even for the most difficult times. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

The following are excerpts from 2 letters received recently from Brother John Poncia (aka Brother John Deporres)
who served St. Anthony’s in 1968-70 with Fr. Simeon Heine, Pastor. Fr. Tony recently visited him and enjoyed a
tour of the new Franciscan Atonement Friary at Graymoor, N.Y.
Hi Janie and Mark:
I was so happy to receive your email. I am doing fine for an old man. (at 81 he spends his days attending Mass, pray-
ing and assisting in various volunteer household duties around the friary) This past year God called 28 of our friars
to Himself. We are praying that God will replace them with a blessing of new and younger vocations. At the present
time we have five younger friars in formation in our house in Rome, Italy. All of them are from Italy with the excep-
tion of one who is from Poland. Please keep us in your prayers that God will bless us once again with worthy voca-
tions.
The friars who passed away within the past twelve months are: Fr. John Coppinger, Fr. Joseph DiMauro, Fr. Thomas
Gumprecht, Bro. Leo Hall, Fr. Donald Howard, Bro. Gregory Luckrezia, Fr. Raymond Luis, Fr. Martin Madison,
Bro. Savio McNeice, Bro. Raymond Saville, Fr. Peter Taran, Bro. Benedict Terasawa, Fr. Pacificus Von Essen. Bro.
Ramond Luis was our youngest friar who died at the age of 35 and Bro. Benedict Terasawa at the age of 95.
Many of the religious orders are not getting numbers of vocations as they use to. There are so many distractions in
the world for young people, many of which no longer attend their churches or synagogues. There are so many evils
in the world and my heart goes out to these young people to make better choices in their lives. We need them not
only for religious vocations but more so to become leaders in their home churches.
There are a few of us still kicking that were stationed in Texas … such as Fr. Timothy MacDonald, Bro. Charles
Kenny, Fr. Gerald DiGiralamo, Fr. Frank Eldridge, and Fr. Arthur Gouthro.
Once again I enjoyed the visit from Fr. Tony. As you are aware our Founder, Fr. Paul Watson’s cause has been intro-
duced to Rome for canonization to sainthood. This process takes a long time. I feel so honored that his tomb is lo-
cated just outside our building. I have a few old used copies of his biography which was written back in the early
50’s. If you would like a copy I will be happy to send you one.
Please give my regards to all, especially the high-school students I knew. I pray that God will continue to bless all of
them.
Sincerely in St. Anthony, Bro. John Poncia

your continued prayers. Their anticipated Diaconate ordi-
nation is June 6, 2020.
