Wow, the new year has come and we are already in Ordinary Time, just a few weeks from the beginning of Lent. The time sure seems to fly by, when we are all so busy! During this time, I am spending each day in prayer and thanksgiving for the many blessings the Christmas season has brought me. The opportunity to live and work among such faith filled children and families has been so inspiring for me and I am convinced there are few people who truly enjoy going to work as much as I do. So thank you, families of this par-ish, for the privilege I have in working with your children. Many blessings to you and your family. Yours in Service, Melissa Hill

A Big THANK YOU to everyone who helped clean the church last time. The next date to clean is Feb. 14th @ 9am. Please meet in the church. This is a great way to earn service hours.

Fascinating Facts of our Faith

His love for the mountains where he was born and his desire to serve God,

brought this young man to serve Peter the Archdeacon and head administra-

tor of Aosta, a diocese in the Alps. Eventually, he succeeded Peter and loved

preaching to the mountain people, leading them from their pagan traditions

to the True God.

In his territory, lay a treacherous mountain pass on the main route used by

French and German people on their pilgrimages to Rome. To care for the

travelers, this dedicated priest established a hospice and monastery at

8,100 feet above sea level and another at 7,076 feet. The Monks sent by

Rome to staff the shelters trained large dogs to aid them in their rescue ef-

forts. This was in the 11th century. The pass still bears the priests name and

in the 1800’s, the breed of dog used, was renamed. You guessed it!! It was

St. Bernard of Menthon. Pope Pius XI named Bernard the patron saint of

mountaineers.

In next week’s bulletin: More Fascinating Facts

Reminder…the 10:00 and 11:30

Masses both offer the Children’s Lit-

urgy of the Word. The children go to

the lower church with a catechist, dur-

ing the readings and the homily. They

will hear the readings and then par-

ticipate in a craft or game that in-

cludes some teaching about the Gos-

pel. Most of the children really enjoy

and learn from this time, and parents

are free to hear and learn as

well! Please take advantage of this

opportunity. Typically, we ask chil-

dren ages 4-9, but can work with a bit

younger or older if need be. Do not

hesitate to contact me if you have any

questions.

Thanks, Melissa Hill
