Prayers for Our Military Troops

Perhaps you, too, love a service member. Or maybe, because you’ve served in the past or know someone who

has, you understand the sacrifices these men and women make to guard our safety and preserve our freedom. We invite you to join us as we pray for

the men and women who serve.

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy.

Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and

keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety,

that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

children ages 5-14. This is the perfect time and opportunity to teach our children and remind them about the true meaning of Christmas. Contest ends

devotion, this is the perfect opportunity. See you then!

Meditation & Reconciliation are part of the message from Our Lady of Fatima. To those who faithfully follow Our Lady’s requests for the Five First Saturdays, she has made a wonderful promise which she, as Mediatrix of All Graces, will certainly

fulfill. “I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation.” This means that our Blessed Mother will be present at the hour of death with the actual grace of final perseverance, the most

important grace.

CHRISTMAS A young mother, her eyes shining with fatigue, who is arranging her hair; a father who finds himself alone with his pretty wife and baby, straightening the stable to make himself useful in some way; shepherds who bring cheese

and perhaps also some curdled milk; sheep who look at their shepherds while bleating; a donkey who is eyeing his manger changed into a cradle;

an adorable swaddled baby whom one calls Savior, Christ and Lord: This is the manifestation of the goodness and the tenderness of God. This is the

most fantastic birth in the history of humanity, the one which changed the face of the world! This is how far God humbled and compromised himself with us! This is Emmanuel!—From God’s Word Is Our Joy, Vol. 1 by Lucien Deiss, CSSp, copyright © 1998, World Library

JOY TO THE WORLD

When the vast prairies of this country were opened up to settlers in the nineteenth century, many of the families who went out West and staked a claim on the land lived very hard and isolated lives, often long miles away from their nearest neighbors. The husbands did backbreaking work to start their farms and raise crops to support their families. The families lived in sod huts or log cabins and the wives struggled with a daily round of child-rearing, cleaning, and cooking in primitive conditions that we can hardly imagine today. They, perhaps far more than their husbands, felt the extreme loneliness of this kind of life. When two families met, the women would as often as not fall about each other’s necks, embracing in tears simply at the joy of being together. This is just an echo of what we

hear about in today’s Gospel. Luke tells of two women, Mary and Elizabeth, united after some time apart. Each is pregnant, each will bear a child who will one day change the world. What is expressed between them is an amazing, overflowing, unconcealed joy. Elizabeth is a woman who has awaited pregnancy for many years, and Mary has learned that she is the chosen one to bear the Messiah. The waiting, the risks, the soul searching, the opinions of neighbors count for nothing as they sense the future unfolding before them, brought about by the hand of God. On this last Sunday of Advent, the story of Mary and Elizabeth reminds us that Christmas is not simply about the birth of a child in a small village in an obscure corner of the world. It is about recognizing light—the light of Christ, the Anointed One, breaking into the world’s darkness and coming to rest in our hearts. Copyright © 2009, World Library Publications.

Copyright © 2009, World Library Publications.

Living Stewardship Now Pray with thanksgiving for the greatest gift of all at Christmas—Jesus, the Savior of the world.

LOS SANTOS Y OTRAS CELEBRACIONES

SAN ESTEBAN (Siglo I) 26 de Diciembre

Celebrating Advent! Find the true meaning of Christmas

in L-O-V-E. Children of all ages enjoy gi s on Christmas morning, but Catholic parents know that there is more to Christmas than presents. It is a celebra on of hope fulfilled. God promised he would send us a Savior so

we could live in Heaven with him forever. He sent his own Son. Help children to experience the true meaning of Christmas by celebra ng with L-O-V-E: L – Lower your outside ac vi es. More than the gi s you give, children will cherish the Christmas memories you make. Limit the number of invita ons you accept, and set aside the extra me as family me. O – Offer an cipa on. Instead of focusing on gi s and lists, an cipate the Savior’s arrival by marking the days on an Advent calendar you make together. Light an Advent wreath. Decorate your Na vity scene gradually. V – Visit. In addi on to weekend Mass, make trips to church so children can visit Jesus. Take Christmas cards you have received and pray for the people who sent them. E – Extend love. An effec ve way to experience love at the holidays is to give it. Act with love, especially when dealing with family. Extending pa ence and kindness during the holiday season can be a challenge and a true act of love. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son ...” (John 3:16).

Though ul Moments: St. Dominic of Silos St. Dominic was a Benedic ne monk, born around 1000AD in Navarre, Spain. He was exiled because of a conflict with the local ruler. Recognized for his leadership abili es, St. Dominic was made abbot of St. Sebas an’s monastery at Silos. He’s also known for having freed hundreds of prisoners from the Moors. St. Dominic, the founder of the Dominicans, was named a er him by his mother, Joan of Aza, a er praying to St. Dominic for a son.

The Wait We spend Advent wai ng for something wonderful to happen. While impa ent to get to that something wonderful, we can forget that the wait can be wonderful, too. Help children take it one week at a

me. Wait, hope, prepare, and rejoice at the miracle of Christ's birth.

A Catholic difference Catholics are never alone in our efforts. We are members of the Church, the body of Christ, and together we make a difference.

MASS TRANSIT December 22, 2019 - 4th Sunday in Advent

Isaiah 7:10-14 • Romans 1:1-7 • Ma hew 1:18-24 “And they shall name him ‘Emmanuel’, which means ‘God is

with us’” -Ma hew 1:23 Do you know why your parents picked the name they did for you? Often parents pick a name because the name comes from an older relative, or from an im-portant personthey admire, or maybe because your parents really loved the sound of the name. Jesus got his name because the angel told Joseph what to name him. God chose the name “Jesus” which means “God Saves” for his son. The prophets knew also that Jesus would be called Emmanuel, or “God is with us.” That was not going to be his given name, but it was going to be who he was! God came to us in the flesh, as a baby, and truly was “with us” then, and now is still truly with us. He will never leave us or abandon us! Dear Father, thank you for giving us your Son, in the flesh. Thank you, Jesus, for giving us yourself in the Eucharist. You are truly “with us” now and forever! Does it ever feel like Jesus is not with you? When that happens, think of Jesus like the sun. The sun is always there, even when we can’t see its light at night or when it is hidden behind the clouds. Jesus is always still with you, even if you can’t feel him.

Questions to discuss after Mass…. What color were the priest’s vestments What was one new insight the homily gave you? Was there something special you noticed at Mass today

The Christmas Prayer of Pope John XXII

O sweet Child of Bethlehem, grant that we may share with all our hearts in this profound mystery

of Christmas. Put into the hearts of men and women this peace for which they sometimes seek so desperately and which you alone can give to

them. Help them to know one another better, and to live as brothers and sisters, children of the

same Father. Reveal to them also your beauty, holiness, and purity. Awaken in

their hearts love and gratitude for your infinite goodness. Join them all together in your love. And give us your heavenly peace. Amen.

–Pope John XXII

TRUST IN GOD

On this final Sunday of Advent our scriptures focus on the historical birth of Jesus, who is son of David and Son of God, child and king, Jesus and Emmanuel. Isaiah the prophet begs Ahaz to ask for a sign, to allow God to offer

him reassurance of the survival of the Davidic dynasty. The king hypocritically refuses to “tempt the L ” in that way (Isaiah 7:12), but the prophet foretells the birth of a son, an heir to the throne, who will prove the Lord’s enduring protection of God’s chosen lineage on the throne of David. The child will be called Emmanuel. Matthew’s reference to this history in his description of the birth of Jesus highlights the contrast between the faithless refusal of trust shown by Ahaz, and the complete trust in God shown by Mary and Joseph in bringing about the birth of Jesus Christ.
