5th Sunday in Ordinary Time: February 4
That – just as Jesus rose early to pray – we, too, may find time
in our day to be with God and to receive strength and nourish-
ment from Him. “Rising very early before dawn, he left and
went off to a deserted place, where he prayed…He told them,
‘Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also.
For this purpose have I come.’” - Mark 1:35, 38
In today’s Gospel reading we see a perfect example of steward-
ship. Jesus gives His time to do all that God wishes - healing the
sick and preaching. But before He begins, Jesus makes time to
be alone with God in prayer. It is through prayer, spending time
with God, that we find the strength to do what He wishes us to
do. Be sure to find time every day to be with God.
Message from the desk of the Pastor
My dear people of God,
In the Gospel we hear that the Good News of Jesus is spreading in many towns and villages. Jesus tells his disciples that he has come for the purpose of preaching and teaching. Let us strive to spread the Gospel in our everyday lives.
Jesus helps us to understand that there are many people in the world who need our help and we, too, should always be ready to give our time to help them. One way we can help those who are sick and suffering is by praying for them and asking Jesus to make them better.
My brothers and sisters, our parish family is about to enter into the holy season of Lent, a season of holiness and grace. Lent is a time when the church calls us to a greater love. During January, we hear the Gospel readings reflecting John the Baptist’s call to repentance. We hear the call of repentance throughout our lives as constantly return to God after we have failed.
In today’s Gospel we see Jesus going out to encounter people no matter where they are. Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at a well, he meets the good thief on the cross, and enters the house of Simon’s mother-in-law where he encounters her and heals her, he also cures many who were sick and drove out many demons. Jesus desires to heal us and make us whole. Jesus heals us and sets us free not so that we can simply live life our way, but so we can build the kingdom of God by spreading the Christian message. Each of us as a Christian is called to say with St. Paul, “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel!”
The way we are to live out the mission Jesus gives us is simply to be a good mother or father, a loving and devoted wife or husband / a faithful friend….. We heard in today’s Gospel that everyone was looking for Jesus. How can we help them find him? Let us undertake our mission with joy and gladness. May God bless you.
Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Joseph
Feast of St. Blaise, Saturday, February 3rd……. Fr. Joseph will bless throats after the 5:30 pm mass on this
Feast Day.

But that is not what God desires; Rather, He devises ways to bring
us back when we have been separated from Him. 2 Samuel 14:14
There might be times in your life where you feel so lost in the
storm God is putting you through. It may even lead you far away from
Him, but He will bring you back to where you are supposed to be. Looking
back at my life, I believe everything I went through happened for a reason.
I was lost and broken, but now I am found. I am right where God wants
me to be in my life. If you need to let it all out, it is completely ok to cry
because it will only make you stronger instead of being weak. There are so
many things people are going through on the inside that we might not
know about. We need to accept that and start being kind to one another.
You never know what mountain God wants the individual to conquer. If
you feel lost and don’t know where to go, just call out to Jesus. He will
make everything better. Things take time. I am so content with where I am at in my life right now.
Once you say yes to God, He will completely change your entire life. Don’t give up now because
someone out there is praying for you. You may feel lost right now, but a huge blessing is coming your
way! Please listen to How Sweet the Sound by Citizen Way. “Amazing grace how sweet the sound. I
hear You singing over me. I once was lost, but now I’m found. And it’s beautiful. Amazing grace how
sweet the sound. It covers every part of me. My soul is silent. I am found. And it’s a beautiful sound.
You carry me through the waters. Where Your peace clears away all my sorrow and nothing can sepa-
rate us from Your love. Oh, Your love it will always be." Kylie

From the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston: As you know, Ash Wednesday falls on February 14th this year, which of course is Valentine’s Day. Ash Wednesday is a universal day of fasting and abstinence throughout the entire church. We have received several inquiries requesting dispensation from fasting and abstaining from meat because of Valentine’s Day and also the Asian New Year(TET). Because of the importance of this day in the church, we
will NOT grant any dispensations from fasting or abstaining from meat on Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Throughout the universal church, there are only two days of the year that we are required to observe abstinence and fasting, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In the United States, we are asked to abstain on all the Fridays during Lent.

Let Go, Let God
We often believe that we need to be in con-trol of our lives and,
oftentimes, of the lives of our family, our coworkers, and our neighbors. We
build up burdens up-on ourselves and
when we are com-pletely stressed, then we run to God. But God says, “come to
me” and “trust in me” before you are wor-ried and weak. He wants it all. He can handle it and he can give us the grace we need and the strength we need to follow his
will. Trust in God and, above all, have
faith.

Please Pray for Priests
Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5) May your priest have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priest be holy, filled with the fire of your love seek-ing nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.
St. John Vianney, pray for us.
