OUR MISSIONSaint Anthony of Padua Parish is a welcoming, loving Catholic community, centered in Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit.
Together we celebrate the liturgy in prayer and sacrament; we educate our children and adults in the faith; we support and reach out to those in need.
We believe the Holy Spirit is calling us to con-tinue: to love one another as Jesus loves us, to share the word of God and to serve both within and beyond our Parish family.

WEEKEND MASSES
-2-
First Sunday of Advent, November 29, 2020 In today’s Gospel from chapter 13 of Saint Mark’s Gospel we hear: Be watchful! Be alert! Being watchful is the theme for each of us as we enter the Season of Advent, a time of waiting, a time of preparation and anticipation. Brothers and sisters, during this pandemic….I think that as we locked down in March of 2020 it has been a time of “Waiting Waiting Waiting and Watching”. We are now through nine months of this difficult time! And clearly in this pandemic “Waiting” there has been a fear- let’s name it for what it is- a fear of getting sick, a fear of seeing those we love get sick. This has been a tough time for each of us. If we take the fear out of this waiting and watching and being alert….I think we do come to understand the beauty of Advent. This Advent with the pandemic is harder because of our feelings and worries at this unprecedented time. But if we truly think of what we do in Advent: we “Wait for the Lord”. Let’s try, each and every one of us, to focus on the Lord-“Waiting for the Lord”. By emphasizing the action of “Waiting on the Lord” we can change our focus. The Lord is there for us, but we need to remind ourselves: This Advent is different because of the times we find ourselves in, but wasn’t that first Advent a time of uncertainty, a time of waiting, a time of worry for Joseph and Mary? Maybe it was not so different! Let us embrace this season of Advent 2020 with hearts open to Waiting for the Lord. Brothers and Sisters, the Lord will come this year as we re-present the mystery of the coming Incarnation here in our midst at St Anthony of Padua parish. The feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12th: There is great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe in our Hispanic Community. There will be an evening Mass at 7:00 PM in the Church. All are welcome.
The Blessing of the Crèche and the Lighting of the Christmas Tree will also be held on December 12th with social distancing immediately after the 5:00Pm Mass, about 6PM. We will gather to light our newly planted Christmas tree donated by the Knights of Columbus to the right of the Church.
At the end of today’s gospel we see the word: WATCH—it is time to watch and wait for the Lord. With prayers in waiting and watching for Lord,
Fr. Ed

Our November PBJ/Mission Gang made 1,000 sandwiches, 200 wash kits and filled 6 more barrels for our Haitian Mission.
Incredible, “SAFE” stewardship in action.
Our youth group meet up at Stop & Shop last Sunday to shop for food for our St. Vincent de
Paul food pantry. Unable to create Thanksgiving meal boxes this year, our kids DEMANDED we still get involved in buying food for those in need. Because we’ve been getting so many kids attending YG, we had to shift our shopping to a large store to keep our COVID protocols in
place and protect our kids and other shoppers.
NOTE: PBJ/Mission Gang will meet on January 2nd AND January 30th, 2021.
St. Anthony’s Peanut Butter & Jelly/MISSION Gang Our next PBJ Gang will meet Saturday, JANUARY 2nd in the lower church.
Everyone must e-mail RSVP if you would like to help us. Please arrive by 8:50am. We end by 10:30. Join the dozens of wonderful people who attend each month to help feed the hungry.
PBJ/Mission Stewards: Deacon Bob Braun, John & Susan Vizzi, Jason Saturno, John & Agatha Piropato
We rely on financial donations to sustain our PBJ ministry.

Children—Family—Faith Formation
1st Sunday in Advent-A 11/29/20
Holy Gospel according to Mark: 13:33- 37
Jesus said to His disciples: “Watch out and be
ready! You do not know when the time will come.
It is like what happens when a man goes away for a
while and places his servants in charge of everything.
He tells each of them what to do, and he orders the watch men to be on their
guard. “So be on your guard! You do not know when the master of the house will
come back. It could be in the evening or at midnight or before dawn or in the morning. But if he come
suddenly, do not let him find you asleep. I tell everyone just what I have told you. Be on your guard!”
Hello God’s children! This week we are starting the season of Advent. Advent, the four weeks leading up
to Christmas, is a time when we get ready for the coming of Jesus. We get ready to celebrate His
birth. And we remember that He will come again.
The Advent Wreath is a beautiful tradition
filled with rich symbolism for reflecting on
the gift of Jesus Christ at Christmastime.
The wreath represents the coming of
Jesus Christ, who is the Light of the
World. As we light the candles each week,
we mark the passage of time leading up to
Christmas. The circular shape of the wreath, without beginning or end,
reminds us of God’s unending love for us and the eternal life we have in
Christ. The greenery speaks of the hope that we have in God, the hope of newness, of renewal, of
eternal life. The wreath holds five candles. During the season of Advent, one candle is lit each
Sunday. The candles remind us that Jesus is the “Light of the World.”
As Jesus’ coming draws near, another candle is lit and with each candle lit the light grows and the
darkness dims, reminding us “in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.
Lord God let your blessing come upon us as
we light the candles of this wreath. May
the wreath and its light be a sign of
Christ's promise to bring us salvation.
Amen.
