Catholic Facts about the Eucharist! Did you know?

Catholics go to mass on Sundays because they believe it is central to their lives as Christians

Jesus is really present in the Eucharist. A Person receives the body and blood of Christ under the form of bread and wine

At time, for practical reasons, communion is simply shared under the form of bread

Bells are rung at mass to indicate an important moment in the Eucharist

The first part of the Mass is based on the old synagogue service.

DRUM ENSEMBLE AT THE CATHOLIC PEFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL

Last Thursday a group of students St Anthony’s Percussion Ensemble performed at Trinity College. The 12-member group consisted of students from Year 3-6 with both girls and boys performing two drum pieces composed by their drum teacher, Andrew. As this was not a competition, the students performed against four other schools and were given a positive critique of their performance. The students were a credit to the school and when asked, the younger students from Year 3 said that they would like to continue in the group next year. Well done everyone.

ROBO CUP JUNIOR STATES COMPETITION Our wonderful coders in Year 5 and 6 are competing at Robo Cup Junior States today. The students have been working hard for months on their Onstage Performance. Their team is called Happy Bots and they have created a robotics dance performance based on a minion theme. They have decorated two robots to look like a happy and a mean minion. In their dance the mean minion chases the happy minion! Their dance is performed to a mix of music that they have edited themselves, including Happy by Pharrell Williams and the intro to Baby Shark by PinkFong. Congratulations to these students for their tireless work and enthusiasm.

Students are required to complete a project whereby they solve a real-world issue with innovative solutions, program a robot solve challenges on the FLL board which consist of LEGO structures and mechanisms and they must demonstrate core values encouraged by the competition such as teamwork, collaboration and enthusiasm.

This is a HUGE task and we need your help! We are hosting a Community LEGO Build on Thursday the 15th of August in the MakerSpace/Library. BOOK WEEK 2019 19th to 23rd August

This year’s theme is “Reading is My Secret Power”

On Wednesday, August 21st, we will have a ‘dress-up’ day to celebrate Book Week and the students will be able to dress up as a character from their favourite book. They can then share the book with their class buddies.

We will have a parade on the school oval at 8.50am so the students can show off their costumes and they must bring their book as well. On that day we will also be holding a ‘Book Swap’ for students. We ask them to each bring in a book (maximum of 2) to swap with other students. All books will be bought to the Library where they will be displayed for others to choose. Classes will be offered times for them to come in to peruse the collection and choose a book.

THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY

This Thursday 15th August we celebrates the Virgin Mother's transportation to Heaven at the end of

her life. It is a Holy Day of Obligation and is referred to as the Holy Mother's Heavenly Birthday.

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING To be an Altar Server is a special honour and a great privilege in the Catholic Church. Altar servers

today can trace their roots or genealogy to the order of Acolyte, a ministry that once was reserved only

for those who were going to be ordained priests. One can look upon being an altar server as a special

and unique ministry by which you, a young person, can help to spread the word and the love of Christ

through your actions and words. If you are interested in becoming an Altar Server, a new course will

commence soon. You must be Catholic and have received First Holy Communion. Please register your

interest with the Parish Office on 9294 3504.

ANTHONYCARE NEEDS YOUR HELP

One of our Parish families is in need of some meals. If you are able to help cook an evening meal

(enough for 2 people), could you please contact the Parish Office on 9294 3504 or even drop a meal to

the Parish Office and we will make sure they receive it. Many thanks in advance for your generosity.

ADVERTISING

A few advertising spaces have become available on our Church bulletin, if you are wanting to place an

advert or know someone who does, please contact the Parish Office on 9294 3504.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

Have you ever thought about becoming a Catholic? Or do you have friends who have expressed an interest in finding out more about the teachings of the Church? If you answer is YES please come along to our inquiry night which will be held this Monday 12th August at 7.00pm in the Presbytery. Please RSVP your attendance to the Parish Office on 9294 3504
