REFLECTIONS

“Lord, this is the people NOVEMBER CALLS US TO REMEMBER OUR LOVED ONES WHO NO LONGER ARE HERE. 1. Who made us? God made us. “In the beginning, God created heaven and earth. (Genesis 1:1)” 2. Why did God make us? God made us to show forth His goodness and to share with us His everlasting happiness in heaven. “Eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man, what things God has prepared for those who love him. (I Corinthians 2:9)’ This 1941 version of the Baltimore Catechism gives us an insight into why the Church focuses our attention on the Saints and Souls who have completed their stay on earth. November One and Two embraces all those brothers and sisters, created by God in His image and likeness, who have formed their life decisions on the Word of God and followed through with their actions. We have the names of saints and martyrs whom the Church has recognized through the ardu-ous process of canonization. We also know in our hearts many great and holy people who have touched our lives per-sonally by their example. At the same time we hold the pro-found believe that we can pray for all of our deceased. And God listens to these prayers. Since God is the Judge of the living and the dead, (and we should never try to pretend that we are the Judge), we dare to hope that they have ex-panded their hearts with love of God to the fullest extent so that they enjoy Heaven. If we truly love them and hope to enjoy their love forever, then we have to seriously meet God on God’s terms each day. ****************************************** LATEST NEWS ABOUT OUR FUTURE “Bishop David Zubik disclosed at the recent Fall Cler-gy Convocation that he intends to make announcements re-garding next steps in the On Mission for The Church Alive! planning process on Thursday, April 26, 2018. He will make the announcements at the Spring Clergy Convocation. The April 26 announcements will begin the “transition phase” of On Mission. From May to September, outgoing and incoming clergy in new parish groupings will have opportunities to discuss how best to provide pastoral care. New Mass schedules will be developed during the summer and communicated to the faithful before the imple-mentation phase begins on Monday, October 15, 2018. On that date, the new clergy assignments and Mass sched-ules will take effect. “Now that we have the dates for both the announce-ment of the bishop’s decisions and for the start date of the new parish groupings, we can focus on planning for delivery of support to the clergy teams and working out operational details that will serve the new groupings,” said Father Sam Esposito, episcopal vicar for On Mission. On Mission for the Church Alive! seeks to invest in more intentional forms of outreach and evangelization so that our faith communities can be vital centers of worship and service, deepening people’s relationships with Christ and one another.”

31st SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME: In the political and commercial world, it appears that humility is not a virtue. Jesus tells us otherwise in the Gospels. It might be good to step back from advertisements and exhorta-tions that encourage us to exalt ourselves and instead pray for the humility of Christ in all our daily interactions. Do we do what God asks of us or do we only pay lip ser-vice to God’s commands? APPALACHIA CLOTHING DRIVE - Boxes and la-bels are available in the Church vestibule for the clothing drive. Be sure to take an ORANGE label paper for each box and follow the directions. DROP OFF TIMES are the weekends of NOV. 11-12 & NOV. 18-19 at the gar-age behind the rectory. Please do not bring boxes before these times. Students will be available these weekends to assist unloading boxes. Please make sure that all clothing is CLEAN AND WEARABLE and that toys, small appli-ances etc. are in GOOD CONDITION. PLEASE DO NOT use plastic bags for packing. Any questions, contact Sr. Mary Elizabeth 412-661-9425, ext. 13 or [email protected]. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: The truck for Appa-lachia will be packed on Friday, November 24, the day after Thanksgiving at 9:15am. The more people, the fast-er the truck is packed and can be on its way to Kentucky. Save the date to work off that Thanksgiving dinner! ADVENT IS COMING! Advent is an important time to prepare our hearts for Christ’s arrival at Christmas. The tradition of lighting an advent wreath each day throughout this season, typically during a family meal, is a beautiful one. We will be selling sets of advent candles for $4 and an advent wreath with candles for $10. They will be avail-able after each of the Masses the weekends of November 18th-19th and November 25th-26th. They will also be available daily before and after school in the 2nd grade classroom. As we make our Christmas “to-do” lists, let’s remember to include meaningful prayer as part of our preparations.
