Our Elect

Michael Byrum

&

Nicole Krasean

This weekend Michael Byrum and Nicole Krasean will be elected to the Sacraments of Initiation! God has chosen them for the Sacraments and the Church will give voice to God’s election! First, at 8:30 mass we hear their sponsors testify as to their readiness for the Sacraments. Then, they sign the Book of the Elect

and the we send them, along with the book, to be presented to Archbishop Thompson at Sts. Peter and

Paul Cathedral during the Rite of Election on Sunday, March 3 at 2:00p in Indianapolis.

We’ll bring the Book of the Elect home from the Cathedral and you’ll see it in Church during Lent. The

book reminds us to pray for Michael and Nicole during the final period of their preparation for the

sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The book also is a reminder for us that in Baptism, our

names were inscribed in the book of eternal life. Here’s a prayer for you to offer for

Nicole and Michael:

Life-Giving God,

you desire that we may be one in Christ.

Look kindly upon your elect,

Michael and Nicole.

Through the power of your Word,

our life of prayer,

and the example of Christ’s love

we share with those most in need,

may they come in time to the table of the Eucharist

where we all shall stand as one body

united in the Holy Spirit

to offer you praise and thanksgiving

through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Encounter LENT 2019

CRS Rice Bowl Program

Join our St. Ben’s Family —and more than 14,000 Catholic

communities across the United States—in a life-changing

Lenten journey of encounter with CRS Rice Bowl. During

the 40 days of Lent, as companions on the journey of faith, we will encounter our neighbor.

This Lent every household in our parish is being given a Catholic Relief Services’(CRS) Rice Bowl.

You’ll find the Rice Bowl in the bulletin this week. The CRS Rice Bowl is a Catholic Lenten program

of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. This Catholic Relief Services’ program helps us to answer the call

to love our neighbor.

In addition to helping our neighbors across the globe, CRS Rice Bowl funds come back to help our St.

Benedict’s soup kitchen. Nearly every year, our soup kitchen receives a $1,000.00 grant from the Rice

Bowl campaign.

In addition, every Rice Bowl comes with a Lenten calendar with prayers and reflections for every day

of Lent, plus meatless recipes, stories and more. You might put this calendar on your refrigerator and

the Rice Bowl on your kitchen table to assist your during Lent.

Our goal is for CRS Rice Bowl to be part of our parish’s shared Lenten practice. It’s an opportunity for

us as a parish to come together as a community and reflect on what it means to live out our Gospel call

to encounter those most in need.

Through prayer, we encounter Christ, present in the faces of every member of our human family,

so often still walking that long road to Calvary.

Through fasting, we encounter our own obstacles, those things about ourselves that prevent us

from loving God and neighbor.

Through almsgiving, we encounter our brothers and sisters around the world, asking what we can

give up so that others might have life to the fullest.

Find out more about what you can do as a family

at home by going to crsricebowl.org/families.
