“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May their soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,

through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”

This Article is Vanity “Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth, vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!” Kind of makes you wonder if Qoheleth was a carpenter that had to install one too many bathroom cabinets! While it is easy to dismiss Qoheleth in what seems to be a very pessimistic view of life, we can miss out on what he really was trying to say…focus on the things that are important. As the book of Ecclesiastes continues, Qoheleth goes on and on about how man’s existence on earth really doesn’t amount to much. But what he realizes in the end is that our only concern is the things of God. At the end of Ecclesiastes, this is what is written: “The last word, when all is heard: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this concerns all humankind.” Quoheleth should remind all of us that we need to step back from time to time and see what vanities exist in our life. Are we working just to pay for “stuff,” or do we practice good stewardship with our resources? Do we spend too much time doing things that may be fun, but basically amount to time-killers, or do we spend time helping others? What other things in our life may be vanity? Does anyone know a good plumber? Deacon Mike

Parish Prayer Chain If you or someone you know is in need of prayer and would like to be added to the St. Bernard Prayer Chain, call Delaine, 734-0538.

Praying The Rosary

Join us before Mass, Saturdays, 4:00 pm and Sundays, 7:30 am to pray the Rosary.

If any of you have received the emails from Dynamic Catholic (also a free service/email), Matthew Kelly talks about holy moments and that our lives can be positively affected by the lives of saints.

A modern day saint, Mother Teresa, or Saint Teresa of Calcutta, is someone that any of us can reflect on, learn life lessons from, and then put her actions into ours.

Watch and enjoy the movie in FORMED called Mother Teresa. Olivia Hussey, portrays Mother Teresa and illuminates her life story. The selfless missionary brought hope, love, and salvation to the poorest of the poor. The movie examines the fundamental moments of Mother Teresa's life from her childhood in Albania in the 1920’s to her first calling as a nun, the decision to leave her order and live with the poorest of the poor, the challenges of founding the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity, and her great work of service in Calcutta and the rest of the world.

A shrewd diplomat and an indomitable force, Mother Teresa was unwilling to accept what others deemed impossible, fearlessly fighting for the unloved and the forgotten. She was regarded as one of the most significant personalities of the Twentieth century, although she never owned more than a white and blue sari. She influenced the decisions of the most powerful men on Earth, although she always stayed close to the poorest people of the world.

The film follows her through the slums of Calcutta as she mingled closely with her people, dispensing help, joy, and smiles to everyone, and also shows her stubbornness with the people who wanted to block her way.

Her faith and loving works transcended hardships and ultimately earned her international acclaim, including the Nobel Peace Prize. The many small miracles, great charity, and humble triumphs of Mother Teresa will inspire you in this poignant tale of a modern-day saint.

Take what you see and learn and go out into the world and MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE. Submitted weekly by a St. Bernard Parishioner

Update Membership Information Does our Parish have your family membership record correct? It is time for us to update our database with any changes, additions, or deletions that may have occurred in your family over the past year. Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children still at home and are they all included in your membership record? In order to help us all know more about our Parish and to have an annually updated Parish directory, we have contracted with Guide Book Publishing to produce a “Guide Book and Ministry Directory.” The book will be direct mailed to every household in our Parish and is being provided at no cost to our Parish. This Book is and shall remain the property of this congregation only. Use of this book by anyone for a business purpose or for the telephone or mail solicitation is strictly forbidden. If you do not want your phone number and/or your address listed in this publication, please call Edna in our Parish Office at 739-0331.

Our Seminarians Need Your Help: Our Diocese has witnessed incredible growth in all vocations including the priesthood. Let’s keep that growth going and support our future spiritual fathers! Please be generous with our Annual Seminarian Collection: Hope for the Future, Help them Today. An important letter will arrive in your mailbox this week asking for your help. Next weekend is the kick off of this annual collection. Your donation provides tuition, room and board, insurance, a small stipend for our seminarians and will support the Vocation Office’s efforts to call forth more candidates. The total annual cost for our 14 seminarians is around $1,000,000. As friends and followers of Jesus, we support each other. In order to make your gift today, visit catholicfoundationgb.org/give The weekend of August 10 & 11, Seminarian, Nathan Budde will speak at our Masses so we can hear about this calling and how we can help.
