Dear Parents/Carers As many of you will know the Arriva bus has changed its timetable and we have had to ensure that the bus leaves the school grounds on time and at a slightly earlier time than before. To allow this to happen we have put no parking cones along the exit to the school to increase the flow of traffic and there is strictly no parking near the gates as this restricts access for the buses. We ask that if you cannot park in school, that you use the field across the road and please do not park on the main road as this restricts visibility for those leaving the car park. Our planning permission for parking across the road has been granted and the next stage will be sourcing contractors to create the hard standing that is required. If any parents have businesses connected with this kind of work and would be able to help in any way, we would be very grateful. We are now into summer uniform and for this term only, as it is the last one before the new uniform starts in September, the existing white shirts can be worn without ties with the top button undone. Alternatively the new summer blouses can be worn or short sleeved white shirts for boys. We realise that this term there will be lots of variations but in September all pupils must be in the new uniform as the transition year will be over. Kind regards Rona Jones Headteacher / Pennaeth
This week we want to ask your help in the use
of language of kindness and above all banning
aggressive language. It is so easy to slip into
a pattern of swearing without realizing it.
We all have the responsibility of working on
the language of kindness. Not easy but it is so
important. Our theme this term is to pray and
act for world peace. Peace starts in our own
hearts ‘A peaceful heart’. When you swear
you are usually angry or cross and this only
exacerbates your anger. So we need to think
seriously before using what after all is called
‘Bad Language’-the opposite to good. Good
versus Evil.
We need to counteract this language by thinking about our speech and making it non
aggressive. Perhaps we need to choose words that we can use instead. ‘Oh my gosh
instead of Oh my God. ‘Bless’ when we hear a sad story. As a faith community we need
to take seriously how we speak to those around us.
If you want your pupils to be kind we have to work on ourselves. God will bless our
efforts. We are trying to carry out Jesus’ request ‘Love one another’. It is hard but it’s
worth it.
The 'Rosary on the Coast' will mark 50 years since the
Abortion Act came into effect.
The United Kingdom are following Poland, Italy, and Ireland
in holding a Rosary rally that they hope will stretch the
length of the British coast to ask the Blessed Mother's
intercession to restore faith, life, and peace in the British
Isles and an end to abortion.

The word "happy" or
"blessed" becomes a
synonym for "holy", because those
faithful to God, by their self-giving, gain
true happiness.

services, Babysitting services, Ironing or housework, Bike servicing, Dog walking, Car wash, Hobby lessons (jewellery-making,
model-building), Pampering vouchers and Sport coaching (Golf, Football, Tennis).
Every ‘Promise’ makes a real difference to school and the pupils.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have asked for tickets but are yet to pay please forward the money to school.
National Literacy and Numeracy Tests 2018
The above tests are to be taken by all children from Year 2-9 throughout Wales. They have
been developed in order to help schools raise standards in Literacy and Numeracy and are de-
signed to align with the Literacy and Numeracy framework.
The tests are due to be administered between Wednesday 2nd and Friday 4th May for Years 7-
9, details for Primary details to follow shortly. Some catch up time will be allocated but
we ask that all parents/guardians make every effort to ensure pupils are in school for these
dates and avoid making dental appointments etc.
The papers will be marked by school staff and the results will be sent electronically to the National Data Collection centres. The
results of the tests with standardised scores according to age will be returned and made available to parents/guardians as soon as
possible. The children do not need to revise or prepare for the tests. The children only need to know the date on which their test
is being taken. A letter will be sent to all parents/guardians with further information next week.
Yr 12 English Literature
Yesterday, the Year 12 English class took a moment to look up from their desks and ven-
tured out into the big, wide world. The first part of the trip consisted of atmospheric, wet,
Yorkshire weather as the pupils visited Ted Hughes’ birth place, along with the places that
inspired some of his most famous work – bringing his poetry to life. The day continued with
a trip to Heptonstall Old Church and
an emotional poetry reading alongside
Sylvia Plath’s grave. The second part
of the trip was to the Bronte parson-
age, to look around the house and
have an exclusive talk on the book the
Year 12's are currently studying, ‘Jane
Eyre’. Overall the trip has furthered
the pupils understanding and will hopefully help them with their literature ex-
ams in May.
Thank you to Mrs Harmsworth and Mrs Thomas for accompanying us on the
trip and to Mr Gallagher for ensuring our safe journey to and from Yorkshire.
Congratulations to the fol-
lowing pupils who won
awards in assembly today.
The CREST Discovery
Awards were handed out
to Francescia Boulton,
Jack Robinson, Keiran Leigh, Martha Nalecz,
Maddie Bunn and Emily Edwards Jones.
Also congratulations to Mille Lyons who has been
awarded a Level 1 Power Boat award by the Sea
Cadets. We look forward to seeing you receive
your Level 2 certificate.
Well done to you all.
