St. Vincent de Paul

2nd Annual

COAT DRIVE OCTOBER 17 - 23, 2011

Once again we appeal to you, our fellow parishioners at St.

Catherine’s, to respond to our neighbors in need. Please

bring new and/or gently worn coats, jackets, hats, scarves

and gloves to the Church Hall. Donations will be accepted

throughout the week and before and after all weekend

masses starting Monday, October 17, and will continue

through Sunday, October 23. Thank you in advance for

your continued support and generosity. “Bear one

another’s burdens, and so you will fulfill the laws of

Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)

CYM BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL SIGN-UP If you are in grades 9 thru 12, you are eligible to participate on our parish basketball team. Members of neighboring parishes without teams are also eligible to play for St. Catherine’s. Registration fee is $100, payable to St. Catherine of Sweden. Registration forms are available on the Hospitality Desk in the Narthex. Please return the completed forms no later than Monday, October 24, to the Parish Office. We are also in need of a Girls Varsity Coach. If you might be interested, please contact the Parish Office at (412) 486-6001 for pertinent details.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE - Today’s gospel speaks about “unworthy wedding guests.” What

makes a “worthy” guest? Presence and presents are not enough. The greatest gift we can

give is support to the couple as they voyage through life together because marriage naturally

contains within it the fields of disappointment. Think of the weddings you have attended.

Have you been a “worthy guest?” —Bud Ozar

CROSSES AND MEDALS are needed for our Rosary Making Ministry. If you have any crosses from broken rosaries or religious medals that can be used on rosaries, please drop them at the Parish Office. Thank you!

Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop #195 will be hosting a FLEA MARKET & BAKE SALE here at St. Catherine’s on Saturday, October 22, from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon (rain or shine). The Boy Scouts will also be selling homemade funnel cakes. Proceeds

from the event will benefit both the scout organizations and Crisis Center North, which is a non-profit organization serving women and children victims of domestic violence in the North Hills. Contact Lisa at (412) 492-0117 for more information.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: To rediscover your love take a trip down memory lane. Ponder the first time you saw the person who is now your life partner. Share with each other your first impressions and what initially attracted you to each other. Reminisce together. Giggle, if you must. —Susan Vogt

The 9TH GRADE CONFIRMATION RETREAT will be held on either Monday, October 10 or Sunday, October 16. Each session will begin at 1:00 pm and conclude after Mass at 7:00 pm. Please drop

your child off at the Church Hall entrance. Students should be prepared to sign up for their Confirmation Interview on October 25, 26 or 27. If you have not yet signed up for your retreat day, please contact Kevin Hunter, Youth Minister, at [email protected] or (412) 486-6001 ASAP.

VOLUNTEERS are needed on the retreat days to help prepare the food and/or monitor the halls. Any parents who would be available, please contact Kevin Hunter. Thank you!
