Introduction• The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation abbreviated as MSRTC is the stat run bus

service of Maharashtra, India with 16,000 buses which ferry 7 million passengers daily on 17,000 routes.

• It is the third largest bus service provider in India after Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation.

• It serves routes to towns and cities within Maharashtra and adjoining states. Apart from locations within the state of Maharashtra, the MSRTC service also covers destinations in neighbouring states

• It is one of the largest fleet owners in India. It is one of the largest fleet owners in India. It also offers a facility for online booking of tickets for all 17,000 routes.

• Headquarter is located in Mumbai• Owner is government of Maharashtra & operation began in 1948 as Bombay Road

History

● The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation was established by State Government of

Maharashtra as per the provision in Section 3 RTC Act 1950.

● The M.S.R.T.C is operating its services by the approved scheme of road transport published

video Notification MVA 3173/30303-XIIA dated 29.11.1973 in the official gazette.

● The first bus was flagged off from the Pune to Ahmednagar in 1948.

● In the early 1950s, two luxury coaches were also introduced with Morris Commercial Chassis.

● There were 10 makes of buses in used during 1950 - Chevrolet, Fort, Bedford, Sedan,

Studebaker, Morris Commercial, Albion, Leyland, Commer and Fiat.

● After Asia buses Volvo Luxury Buses where introduced.

Raw Materials

The raw materials used in the body building of buses comprise mainly of MILD STEEL for CROSS BAR CHANNEL and other weight bearing parts of the bus. The rest of the body is made up of SHEET ALUMINIUM.

Suggestion

1. Manual work is a big hindrance in the quality production. Automated machines and tools should be inducted because their combination will increase accuracy.

2. Safety of workers should be increased.3. Proper research should go into the alternatives for currently used raw materials

and designs with the changing demands.4. Superior quality paints and other alternatives will make even better buses which will be good for the organisation in the long run.
