From Your Pastor’s Heart

Tradition.       Don’t you love the comfort and challenge of being a part of a community and a church with such a rich heritage and tradition?        Today we honor our Mothers.        Who we are and what we shall be is the result of our mothers’ prayers and teachings. When we think of home and our upbringing, many of us cannot separate our mothers’ instruction from the words of the Bible.  My Dad was a minister, but my mother taught me and my minister brother our night Bible verses to memorize.        Today we welcome and honor our friends from our sister community of Frankweiler.  Colonel Johann Gottfried Cullman is the founder of our city and one of the founders of St. John’s Church.        One of the great joys of my years of preaching ministry was to preach in the old stone church in the heart of Frankweiler.  I preached the entire sermon in German.  What a blessing that was to me.  Frankweiler is just a few miles from the community of Worms where Martin Luther first stood trial for criticizing the church of his day.           Our Protestant Faith is a precious heritage.         So is Frankweiler.         And…SO ARE OUR MOTHERS.

Page 13: St - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/stjohnsevangelicalprotestantchurch/do…  · Web viewHEARING GOD’S WORD. A READING FROM THE OLD TESTAMENT Proverbs 31:10-31 page 1032 Rev

Your Pastor Bob

Mother’s Pride     During her son’s term, the mother of President Eisenhower was asked on television,“Aren’t you proud of your son?”  Mrs. Eisenhower surprised the host and the audience by responding famously, “Yes, yes I am, but which one are you referring to?”

Did You Know     Of the sixty-nine Kings of France only three were beloved and truly adored by their subjects and these three were the only ones raised by their mothers.  All the others were raised by nannies and tutors and guardians.  Our ability to love and respect others, even as a King, comes from the love our mothers put in and around our lives.

A Mother’s Responsibility     Mothers…always be the soul support of your children.                                                                     --Pastor Bob
