"Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration with exposition needs a great push. People ask me: 'What will convert America and save the world?' My answer is prayer. What we need is for every parish to come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in holy hours of prayer." ~ Mother Teresa

I, once again, thank everyone who completed the parish survey this past Fall, especially for the many candid remarks. It was crucial in charting our strategic plan for the future. As I mentioned at Mass last weekend,

there were some specific comments/questions made that I would address through bulletin announcements. I begin by sharing one comment made by a parishioner that sums up one of my personal goals for the parish: “We are becoming a real community of believers.” We are here to deepen our faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ. All the other ‘things’ that make up our parish are mere positive factors. It was also very clear that people are attached to their church buildings. This is commendable in the sense that we should take pride in our worship space and treat it with the sacredness it deserves. It weighs on my heart, however, that some of our parishioners do not feel welcome at one church or the other. It weighs on my heart that one building is deemed ‘better’ than another. Jesus is truly present in the tabernacles at both churches. I know this is an uphill battle of culture, but we are one parish: the Parish of Saint Damien of Molokai. I cannot stress this enough. We accomplish so much together once we accept that fact that we are a unified parish under our one Lord, Jesus Christ.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Rev. John P. Melnick

“We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa

The Windsor KofC Council 3181 would like to thank Reverend Melnick, Deacon Cala, and Deacon Lickwar for supporting the recent Novena for Life. We also would like to thank all of the parishioners who participated. Thank you very much.

Today we celebrate The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples ‘you are the salt of the earth’ and ‘the light of the world.’ In Jesus’ time salt was used for flavoring, as a preservative, and to help in healing. To be called the ‘salt of the earth’ means that you are a good person. Think about what it looks and feels like when you are in a dark room. When we are in the dark, we can’t see where we are going. But we know that light helps us to see what we are doing and where we are going. When we do good deeds - Works of Mercy - we give glory to God and we show that we are the light of Christ. We all go through hard times when we need some help. And as Christians, we provide help to people who need it. You don’t have to be a grown-up to help others. What are some ways you can show that you are the light of the world?

The Catholic Graduates Club of Greater Hartford, Inc. is offering three Scholarships for any Catholic student who is a Hartford County resident now attending an accredited secondary school and who wishes to attend a four year college beginning in 2020. Go to: www.Catholicgraduatesct.org or your Principal/Counselor by 3/16/20

College Students Retreat The pace of college can often leave students with the need to rest and reflect in a sacred space. Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center will hold a weekend retreat for college students during which a variety of workshops are offered to strengthen faith through learning and small-group discussion. The retreat is centered on the liturgy of the Church and enhancing the experience of community among college students. The retreat begins on Friday, evening February 14th with a buffet dinner from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and concludes on Sunday, February 16th with brunch at noon.
