St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
Fall 2015
Dear SEAS Family,
Another school year is underway with all of its activities and challenges.
All of this calls for families to be involved together so that the bond of love may
be strengthened. This applies not only to school but to the family of SEAS. Parish
activities ask for all to partake in its activities to enhance the good that can be
done and to strengthen the bond of love and friendship so that we may truly be
the family of God.
This Autumn season, the church itself will reflect on families with all its
challenges and difficulties and strengths. In September there will be the World
Meeting of Families which will take place in Philadelphia and where Pope
Francis will be a participant. Then, the month of October will see the Synod on
Families which will take place in Rome. The strength of any society finds its basis
on the strength of family life. It is all too evident that for many, family life can be
a struggle. The influences which affect family life can build up or tear down the
bond of love among family members. The challenge is then how do we help
those who are struggling? What are the influences that can make family life
stronger and more caring and loving?
To help families be a community and reflection of love, we need to pray.
Pray for families and pray that God will enlighten many to find ways to help
families. May God bless each of our families and our parish family.
In Christ,
Fr. Charlie

Notes from Caryn
Calling all present, past, and wanna-be choir
members! And anyone else who enjoys singing. Please plan to
attend a Meet N Greet after the 11:00 a. m. Mass on Sunday,
September 13 in the church. We welcome any and all folks who love
music and want to use it to praise God by “singing a joyful noise”!
If you cannot commit to weekly rehearsals (generally at 10:00 a.m. on
Sundays), we are also looking for people who would like to do a solo on
occasions, whether vocally or on a musical instrument.
If you have any questions, stop by the organ after 11:00 a.m. Mass or
call Caryn at 1-330-815-6940. Looking forward to meeting all of you!
Notes from Ron
Practice for the annual Christmas Eve
Musical begins in September after the
11:00 a.m. Mass. The musical is always
a lot of fun and is enjoyed by all. We need lots of children and teens to
join in. Cast parts will be assigned at the first practice. See Mr. O’Hearn
or call the church office with any questions.
The Handbell Choir is a wonderful way to participate in your parish. We
meet on Wednesday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
You do not need to know how to read music to
play handbells for the music is color coded.
If you enjoy music, but feel you cannot sing, why
not try the handbells? Practices will start in
September. Watch the bulletin for details.

Pork Roast
Please do not miss the Knights of Columbus
Pork Roast. It will be held at SEAS starting
at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11. As in the past, we will have
delicious pork with all of the trimmings. Our menu will include special
prices for children and seniors. Eat in or take out!
The pork roast is an annual fund raiser for SEAS Knights of Columbus.
The revenue is used for scholarships and for our participation in various
parish events such as the parish picnic and family fun night. We count
on your support and look forward to seeing you there!
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal order that is dedicated to the
principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. It is our moral
obligation to invite every eligible Catholic man to join. Being a Knight
offers a man the opportunity to develop his faith, form friendships, and
enjoy council, social and fraternal activities.
Our council has consistently supported the parish in many ways. Some
of the things we do each year are: the pork roast, free throw contest,
and assist at Mass every fifth Sunday weekend. We also help with other
events such as the parish picnic, family fun night, and chicken barbecue.
In October, we will lead the rosary after 8:00
a.m. Masses. Knights of Columbus Football
tickets for cash prizes in the second half of the
NFL season will soon be available from your
friendly Knights after Masses. And, don’t forget the “Keep Christ in
Christmas” magnets and decals that we will start selling in November.
All Catholic men are encouraged to join us. Our members meet on the
third Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the meeting room. Stop a
Knight when you see one or leave our name with the church office and a
Knight will call YOU!

Married Couples Ministry
Married Couples Ministry presents
Sweetest Day 2015
October 17 ~ 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. You are invited to an evening of reflection and conversation about our
greatest relationships. A short video by Fr. Robert Barron provides
insight into how we are drawn to each other by God for a reason. And it
may not be the reasons we think!
Enjoy a heart-warming meal of soups and bread as you discover a little
more about God’s purpose for marriage and friendships. There is no
charge but please bring an appetizer or dessert for 6 to 8 share. And
remember to register by October 11 to hold your place at the table!
R.C.I.A.
Are you or someone you know interested in learning more about the
Catholic faith? Do you want to participate more fully in the Sacraments?
If so, please call Fr. Charlie at 236-5095 to learn more about the class for
R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). Classes begin Sunday,
September 13 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the meeting room. All
materials are provided for you at no charge and there is no obligation.
All are welcome!
In the Hospital?
We are eager to visit with our parishioners who are hospitalized and
make every effort to do so. Because of short hospital stays and privacy
rules we are often not informed when parishioners are admitted. It is
important that a family member lets the parish office know immediately
when someone is in the hospital.
Spiritually Speaking…
Spiritual Life invites you to look
forward with us to the season
before Advent. The rosary will
be recited after all 8:00 a.m.
Masses in October. If you would
like to lead the rosary please
call the office. The Knights will
do one of the Sundays.
All Souls Day is celebrated on
November 1. This is a day that
we take time to recognize in a
special way those who have
died during the past year. We
will have an All Souls Service
with prayers and a candlelight
ceremony after the 11:00 a.m.
Mass. If you have a relative or
friend who you would like to be
included in this special service
call the office and we will be
reserve a candle in their honor.
Everyone is encouraged to take
part in the Community
Thanksgiving Service which is
held the night before
Thanksgiving. Watch the
bulletin for details on this years’
service.

SEAS Faith Sharing
“Therefore, encourage one another and build one
another up, as indeed you do.” -1 Thess 5:11
Faith Sharing is a small gathering of people who:
Pray, listen and theologically reflect upon Scripture together.
Share ways in which the Word of God relates to one’s life
experience.
Encourage and support one another.
Challenge each other to grow spiritually.
Support each other in living as a follower of Jesus Christ,
working to transform society.
The Men’s Faith Sharing Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of
each month from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the meeting room.
The Women’s Faith Sharing Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday
of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the meeting room.
Please consider joining us.
SEAS Outreach Society
We continue to receive requests for help in our community. We assist
with utility shutoffs and other needed emergency assistance. Along with
financial help, we try to guide our clients to agencies and programs that
will be able to help them with long term needs.
We will again have Keep Warm Sunday on October 24 and 25. At this
time we will collect bedding items and towels as well as cash to be
donated to the needy in Lorain County. The items we collect will go to
Elyria Hospitality House Center for distribution. Their clients are most
appreciative of the help they receive from us.
We are able to do all these things because of our generous contributors.
You are truly the hands of Christ in helping our neighbors in need. Thank
you for response of aid to the needy of our community. We are blessed
to have such generous support.
Youth Group
Our church has a youth group
for 7th graders through high
school students. The group has
a lot of fun activities, service
projects, and bible study. We
have also had a few
fundraisers! Watch the bulletin,
check the bulletin board or call
the religious ed office to find
out about what it is happening
with our group. To join just

PSR News
Teaching our Catholic faith to our
children is the responsibility of the
entire faith community. It is the
parent’s responsibility to bring their
children to Mass, talk about and live
their faith at home and at work. If
your children attend public school in grades one through eight they
should be enrolled in PSR classes. Classes begin on September 14 with a
Meet and Greet night at 6:30 p.m. here at the church. We look forward
to helping your children in their faith journey.
Your child must be registered and have paid the fees before they can
attend class. If you still need to register or have any questions please
call the religious ed office at 236-3711. Please keep all our PSR students
in your prayers.
Confirmation students should be watching the bulletin for
opportunities to earn service hours. The Pork Roast on October 11 will
be a great service project!
Marian Circle
Our ladies group has lots of fun activities and
also helps the parish by being hostesses. With
the funds we raise, we purchase items for the parish and help the local
food pantries. Our meetings are the third Thursday of the month at 7:00
p.m. in the meeting room. Our next meeting is September 17. We would
love to see YOU join this great group. We are looking for new ideas and
could use your help in planning.
The Ladies Game Night will be on October 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. We
will have delicious appetizers. If you have been to our events, you know
they will be plentiful. We are expanding the games to include both
BUNCO and YAHTZEE. Come join in the fun.
The popular Advent Tea will be held on December 4. Watch the bulletin
for more information on both these events.

Pray and Remember
9/11/01 Jesus, beloved Savior, in
remembering these terrible
events, we recognize our great
need for Your guidance and
protection. We have painfully
learned that our country is
vulnerable and that violence
can disrupt both individuals and
nations. We pray then for
healing for all the people whose
lives were shattered in the
attacks. We pray for those who
defend our freedom. We pray
for wisdom for our national
leaders. We pray for peace, for
our country and our world.
Jesus, beloved Savior, as we
remember, hold us in Your
loving hands. Amen.

Finance News
On-line Giving is coming soon. We have passed all the obstacles and are
in the home stretch. We will have a link on our website to direct you to
on-line giving. Look for information by mail, bulletin, and
announcements.
For too many weeks our offertory collections have been significantly
lower than the amount we need in order to keep the parish running and
well maintained. We have tried to be good stewards and continue to
look for ways to cut expenses. But we need your help as well, please try
to increase your weekly contribution even modestly.
Your continued support of our ongoing fundraisers (paper recycling and
certificate purchases) is a big help. We especially appreciate all the
volunteers who do so much for our parish. You save us thousands of
dollars every year.
Second Harvest Food Pantry
Food Pantry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church is a Second Harvest
Charitable Partner. On the first Monday of the month (unless it’s a
holiday and then the second Monday), we distribute food to an average
of 55 families consisting of 143 people. Our clients live in Columbia
Station, Eaton, or Grafton. Many are elderly or disabled. Without our
assistance many would have to choose between food and prescriptions.
We get the majority of our food from Second
Harvest. This food is furnished by the government at
no cost to our pantry. Second Harvest also has food
we can purchase at greatly reduced costs. The
remainder of the food is donated by volunteers and
parishioners. The people of our parish are very
generous in donating money so we have the funds to purchase
necessary food. You were fantastic in your support to help us get food
in June, when Second Harvest was closed due to moving.
The pantry is manned by parish volunteers and some of our clients, who
work unloading the truck and sorting food at 2:30; distributing food at
4:00 p.m.; and clean up after. The food pantry is for the community but
we receive no support from outside our parish.
