This weekend we celebrate the

Solemnity of the Body and Blood of

Christ. As we count down two weeks to

the merger of our new parish, Triumph

of the Holy Cross, let us remember that

we are a Eucharistic people. The Body

and Blood of Christ that we receive in

the Eucharist is what makes us into the

Body of Christ, the Church. As the Body

of Christ, we are His body in our world

today and continue His mission of

bringing the good news of God’s love to

all we meet. As we share in this Holy

Communion, let us pray for ourselves

and our new parish, that we will be one

living, vibrant parish—the living Body of

Christ and the Temple of His Holy Spirit.

s shown in the picture, the four

churches in our grouping can be

connected in the form of a Cross. The

cross reminds Christians that there is no

trial we can face that God does not also

face with us. Christ bears all of our crosses

with us and never abandons His people in

their need. In our evangelization, we ought

to “proclaim Christ crucified.” As a new parish, we ought to witness to

the love of God which finds its highest

expression in Christ crucified. Also

interesting to note: the angle of the cross

in the attached image, appears to be the

angle that Jesus carried His cross. You can

almost envision Jesus bearing the cross on

the road to Calvary.

Our parish will be served by Father Paul Zywan (Pastor), Father Ken Kezmarsky (Senior Parochial Vicar), Father Bill Terza (Senior Parochial Vicar),

Father Jason Charron (Parish Chaplain) and Deacon Gerry Como.

Becoming ONE

Our public celebration of the Mass continues this weekend on: Saturday, June 13 at 4:00PM and Sunday, June 14 at 9:00AM.

Both Masses will be at St. Thomas à Becket in the Church.

The Saturday anticipated Mass is broadcast on YouTube at 6:00PM and available to view any time afterwards.

Weekday Masses are at St. Thomas à Becket

at 8:00AM in the Church and available for viewing at home at 9:00AM.

Please see guidelines for safe attendance on Page 6.

“There is no evil to be faced that Christ does not face with us. There is no enemy that Christ has not already conquered. There is no cross to bear that Christ has not already born

for us, and does not bear with us.” — St. John Paul II

May our parish structural orientation on the 51 corridor and our new name reflect this message of faith, hope and God’s eternal love for all.

It is no wonder that followers of Christ are called the Body of Christ. After all, sharing in the same spiritual food and sacred meal, they become what they eat and reveal the Divine image. There is so much power for healing in the community of believers. Through the Eucharist, Christ becomes as present in those who have partaken of the Body and Blood as He has the elements themselves. The very presence of God touches the depths of the human soul and visits a part of us that no human being can ever hope to explore. The sacred Eucharistic meal is a celebration of intimacy—the reunion of two loves in constant search of and longing for the other. The community of believers receives the power and the presence to touch and heal in the name of the One they have welcomed within. It is now within their grasp to change the way life is lived and to more intentionally put into practice the Beatitudes that the Divine Guest has revealed. We are asked to be like Christ and work to create a world of sufficiency, where the greed of some no longer creates the want of others, but where all of God’s children can find a home and a place at the table of life. The One who makes a home within, calls us to live a life that transforms. We are changed ourselves and now become agents of change for others. We are the Body of Christ. God is with us. We have been nourished. Sadly, many are afraid to try. We know what we are called to do, but we struggle with feelings of doubt as to whether God really is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Do our systems have to change? Is it possible that we somehow missed the mark when we put all of our social networks in place and established the business of our lives? Perhaps we have to radically rethink our approach and that can scare us. We might have to give something up or change and we don’t want to. As long as want, injustice, division, prejudice and scarcity still exist, there is tremendous work for the Body of Christ.

Remember our faithful departed in your prayers …

June 2, 2020 Given all that is transpiring around us and within us, I ask that you ponder the following:

This has been a tough week. Since the tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis at the beginning of last week, we have been confronted again with a number of ugly issues, perhaps the most notable of all, the sin of racism. Given the violence which we witnessed in Pittsburgh these past days and the escalating tensions in many major cities throughout the United States, we continue our prayers for peace and calm in the midst of ongoing violent protests following the death of George Floyd. In 2018, we bishops in the United States released a pastoral letter entitled “Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love—A Pastoral Letter Against Racism.” I can think of no better time than now for us to use any opportunity that comes our way to read and reflect on an issue that is as ugly as racism. This is truly a time for us to recognize the effects of that sin, which are stunningly evident in our streets and in our news stories. It is equally important for us to search our hearts to see if that sin is within us. If you do not have a copy of the letter, you may retrieve it at the following:

http://usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/racism/upload/open-wide-our-hearts.pdf

Wake Me Up, Lord

Wake me up Lord so that the evil of racism finds no home within me.

Keep watch over my heart Lord

and remove from me any barriers to your grace.

Fill my spirit Lord so that I may give

services of justice and peace.

Clear my mind Lord and use it for your glory.

And finally, remind me Lord that you said,

“Blessed are the peacemakers

for they shall be called children of God.”

Amen.

—From the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, May 30, 2020 www.diopitt.org

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced on May 29, 2020 that 16 counties in western and central Pennsylvania, including much of the Pittsburgh area, will move to the green phase of reopening on June 5. In our diocese, Allegheny, Butler, Greene and Washington Counties will be joining Lawrence County, which moved into the green phase on Friday, May 29. The green phase does not mean that everything is back to what we once knew as normal. Under the green phase, restaurants and bars, hair salons, barbershops, gyms, spas, wellness facilities, casinos, theaters and shopping malls are all allowed to open, but they must limit occupancy to 50%. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines must continue to be followed. Pennsylvania Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine, said people will still need to wear masks and remain vigilant to potential spread of the virus. Religious institutions are strongly encouraged to enforce social distancing and other mitigation measures. As such, all current diocesan reopening guidelines, outlined in the “Moving Forward Together Guide,” remain in effect until further notice. In these changing times, Bishop David is asking you to support your pastor and his parish team, to work through the reopening transitions. Please consult your parish office or website for more information regarding these plans.

They recognized Him in the breaking of the bread. This was the amazing revelation or epiphany that occurred on the Road to Emmaus. Bread that had been transformed into the Body of Christ opened the eyes of the disciples and showed them who was really with them. Their hearts were burning. Sometimes we struggle with our belief in the Eucharist because we make it too much of an intellectual challenge. If God’s divinity was wed to humanity in the incarnation of Christ, then why is it not possible for God to take simple elements of bread and wine and transform them into His Body and Blood? Affirm your faith today that the Eucharist you receive is God Himself. Become what you eat and allow God to embrace your soul and touch that part of you that no one else can touch.

“we take the stars from heaven, the red

from our mother country, separating it by white stripes. Thus showing that we have separated from her, and the white stripes shall go down to posterity, representing our liberty.” — George washington
