Pastor’s Message - Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“…but they would not welcome him because the destina-tion of his journey was Jerusalem.” (Lk 9:52) Today’s gospel reading is a strange mix of welcome and rejection. The Samaritans were irked at Jesus’ choice for a final destination – Jerusalem. We wonder as to what they would have had in store for Jesus. Have they put all trust in Him as a viable leader and ally versus the Jews in Jerusalem whom they consider as mortal enemies? On the one hand, we have people flocking up to Jesus for a possible role and position in his entourage to Jerusalem. They came with varying degrees of commitment, baggage, and questions related to family and possessions. Have you ever thought of someone or something that may have hindered you're following the Lord? We are back to Ordinary Time in our liturgical season; that ‘in between’ time to digest the meaning and beauty of the feasts and solemnities we celebrate. In your daily prayer and scriptural readings, allow the Holy Spirit to melt all your praises and petitions into one of full communion with Jesus in ministry. Beginning today, our reception, ‘meet and greet’ Sundays will commence after the 8 am Mass. Important to remember, hospitality is an essential tenet of responsible stewardship of our parish. The welcome does not end there. Our everyday practice of the faith in prayer deepens our reception and union with the Lord and with one another. “For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Gal 5:14)
