From Father’s Desk……. Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Last Sunday, we began National Vocation Awareness

Week. Though the week technically concludes today, in many

respects it continues for a few more days in our parish and in our

diocese. This Thursday, November 12th, we are excited to cele-

brate 50 years of priesthood with Monsignor Peter Buchignani.

Monsignor studied in Rome during the exciting times of the Sec-

ond Vatican Council and he was ordained to the priesthood in St.

Peter’s Basilica in 1965 at the conclusion of the Council. In

many ways, Monsignor has spent his priesthood living out the

promise of the Council – and sometimes steadily navigating the

difficult waters that always occur in times of change. Over the

years, Monsignor has served many parishes in our diocese

(including 17 years as pastor of St. Francis) and has also served

our diocese in almost every capacity. Even after his

“retirement,” Monsignor continues to serve our diocese in the

important role of Vicar General. I invite you to congratulate

Monsignor and celebrate priesthood by joining us this Thursday

for a Mass of Thanksgiving at 7:00pm and for the reception that

follows.

Many thanks to those families who came to visit our

parish school’s Open House last Sunday. I know that you saw a

vibrant school community dedicated to excellence in education

and firmly grounded in the Catholic faith. I am especially grate-

ful to the teachers, administrators, staff and students who took

the time to join us and to share their own experiences of St.

Francis of Assisi School with the families of prospective stu-

dents. If you missed our Open House, there will be another one

in early 2016 – or you can contact Susan Fetz, our Admissions

Director, to arrange for a private tour.

While our parish school and Parents Day Our program

serve students from 2 years old through eighth grade, the work

of Catholic education continues. Our neighbors, St. Benedict at

Auburndale High School, will be welcoming prospective stu-

dents and their families this afternoon at an Open House this

afternoon at 1:00pm. I encourage you to visit SBA and learn

about the wonderful educational opportunities available there.

Pax et bonum,

Noteworthy……

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process through which adults become full members of the Catholic Church. There are several stages involved in the process beginning with a period of

inquiry to find out more about Catholicism. Sessions meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm in Room 108 of the Parish Life Center. If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about the RCIA, please contact us by phone or email:

Call the Parish Office at 901-756-1213 Email the parish at [email protected]

A member of the RCIA team will contact you. We look for-ward to helping you in your journey!

Bible Covenants, taught by Fr. Rob Ballman

Wednesdays, December 2, 9 & 16, 7:00-9:00pm

St. Francis Parish Life Center, Room 113

As Creator and Father, God wants to be a part of peo-ple’s lives. Even when we stray and forget Him, He constantly calls us back into relationship with Him. For His part, God makes us promises that if we re-main in His love, He will provide for our needs. This Advent series will explore the different covenants that God has entered into with humanity to bind us to Himself and His promise of love. We will explore the reasons for God choosing to intervene into hu-manity’s life and the promises made with these cove-nants, along with the major players of each. Pre-registration is requested by calling the church office at 901-756-1213 or by emailing [email protected]. Participants should bring a Bible.

NEWS FROM OUR PARISH SCHOOL

Thank you to all of our parish and PRE members that at-tended our Open House for prospective families! Catholic education provides students with a strong foundation on which to build bright academic futures. With a focus on actively living one’s faith, St. Francis School assists students in realizing their own personal gifts and learning the im-

portance of serving others. As part of living our faith, our 8th grade students presented our Great Hall of Saints. They dressed as a saint and shared stories and interesting facts about the saint they depict-ed to our younger students. Catholic Schools make a difference! For more information or a tour, please contact Susan Fetz at 381-2548 or [email protected].

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

DID YOU KNOW:

In a Marist Poll conducted for the Knights of Columbus, it was found that the vast majority of Americans (84%) are still very uncomfortable with the reality of widespread abortion in the United States.

There is strong support for abortion restrictions – including among those who identify as “strongly pro-choice.” Eighty-four percent of Americans would limit abortion to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy, with 58 percent of strongly pro-choice Americans supporting such limits.

Though not an end to abortion, this would be a big step to-wards that goal.

St. Francis Parents Day Out

has started school!!

We are looking for 3 & 4 year olds

to learn, play and grow with us.

If you would like to learn more about the knights or would like to be part of our organization, please contact Steve Manzo at 901-489-1144 or Tom Viotti at 865-789-2427.

As a result of your recent donations we are now

able to begin again assisting those in need.

Whenever we have had a shortage of money, God

saw our need and put that need to work through

our parishioners and friends.
