Many thanks to our generous benefactors!

Spring Food Drive: The Knights of Columbus, Council #1313, will be coordinating the parish's Spring Food Drive benefiting St. John's Food Bank at all Masses on the weekend of May 4/5. Grocery

bags will be disseminated by the Knights after the weekend Masses on April 27/28. Each bag will have a list of needed foodstuffs; you may return the bag with your donation to the Knights before the Masses on May 4/5th and

we'll deliver them to the Food Bank.

St. John's Food Bank assists over 250 needy individuals and families each week with meeting basic nutritional needs. In the Spring, the inventory at the Food Bank traditionally runs low; your generosity WILL make a difference for some needy family. Last fall, the parish contributed over 2,100 pounds of food and nearly 300 pounds of disposable diapers. Can we beat that total this Spring?

Thanks you for your on-going support.

Blessed and happy Easter to all!! May the joy and love of the risen Lord be with all of you and your families. The holiest day of the year celebrates the triumph of the cross over sin and death. With the grace of the Lord we are no longer slaves to sin but can grow in holiness. St. Paul mourns, “For I do not do the good I want, but I do the evil I do not want” (Rom 7:19), recognizing that it seems at times we don’t have control over our sinful impulses. However, as Easter people we strongly believe that the power of the resurrection helps us to overcome bad habits and form good ones. In Easter season we live in a deeper awareness of the victory of Jesus over sin and death. We no longer have to fear death for Christ provides the grace of life-giving water through our baptism. Easter season reminds us of our baptism. Have you thought about what your baptism means lately? We choose to become children of God again, submit-ting ourselves to God. Easter reminds us to live in the joy of belonging to Christ completely. Many of us have trouble with that at times. Submission is not a trait of our society. And submission doesn’t mean we become thoughtless zombies for the Lord. But it does mean that we choose to submit our lives and our lifestyle to Christ through our living in the Church. Although we are an Easter people we never leave the cross far behind in this world if we choose to be disciples of Jesus. We will only come to the fullness of Easter joy when we meet the Lord in heaven. However, we should live our lives in the awareness that even now the life of Christ is at work in us. We are in the process of rising with Jesus even now on earth. Halleluiah!!

Join Us on Divine Mercy Sunday

From the diary of a young Polish nun, a special devotion began spreading through-out the world in the 1930s. The message is a reminder of what the Church has always taught through scripture and tradition: that God is merciful and forgiving. In the Divine Mercy devotion, the message takes on a powerful new focus, calling people to a deeper understanding that God’s merciful love is unlimited and available to everyone — especially the greatest sinners. St. John Paul II was drawn particularly to the divine mercy message, and in the year 2000 added the Divine Mercy as a feast day for the world-wide Church on the Sunday after Easter. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy may be

said at anytime during the year. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy as a Novena (saying a chaplet each day for nine days) is suggested to be prayed especially from Good Friday until Divine Mercy Sunday. Our Lord gave St. Faustina a different intention for each day that He wished to be prayed. “By this Novena [of chaplets, before the Feast of Mercy], I will grant every possible grace to souls” (Diary, 796). Join the Choir on April 28th at 3:00 pm for the singing of the Chaplet.

HELP NEEDED: A woman called the office who needs help with mowing her lawn. She has a lawn mower and gas, but needs help with the mowing. If you could help, please call the office.

The Divine Mercy Campaign: We have a collected all the money we need to pay for the Divine Mercy Billboards! Every year I am inspired by how generous and enthusiastic every-one involved in this work of evangelization is! All donations received at this point will be deposited in the DM account and applied towards next year's campaign. THANK YOU and God bless you!

Speaking of God blessing you, anyone who has helped in any way with the billboards - giving, forwarding or praying - will be remembered in 5 masses said over the summer at Holy Protection of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Church.

Lastly, our Divine Mercy Billboard campaign was inspired by Joe Cannon, who did it first. He was an amazing man; funny, compassionate, clear minded well into his 90s and filled with a zeal to tell the world about the Mercy of Jesus Christ. He passed into eternity this past January. I would imagine he heard Our Lord say, "well done good and faithful servant" sometime soon after! Christi Derr

BILL’S ADVENTURES – The family dressed up in their brand new Easter clothes, that seemed to make them feel and look different. When Father Frank was reading the gospel, Bill tried to be quiet and stand still, because he didn’t think he had ever heard that story before. He wondered who in the world moved that great big stone? Maybe they rigged something up. He was pretty sure that one person couldn’t be so strong.

RE CHALLENGE – Today listen to the gospel like you’ve never heard it before. Let the story settle deep in your heart. Jesus HAS Risen, He is not there!! RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CALENDAR: APRIL 23/24 – CLASS & MISMATCHED Outfit

Day APRIL 30/MAY 1 – Final Class – Don’t miss out! Favorite Team or Character

CHURCH ATTIRE REMINDER: Do you remember that you are a temple of the Holy Spirit? You’ll never regret dressing appropriately with modesty & humility. Be brave, be a leader – please always dress reverently, especially when you come to spend time with our Lord, Jesus Christ! Thank you! 6

MY CHILD TAKES ART, BASKETBALL, DANCE, SCOUTS, AND PIANO LESSONS. WE DON’T HAVE TIME TO KEEP COMING TO RE, WE ARE TOO BUSY! WHY DO WE HAVE TO KEEP COMING SINCE SHE HAS ALREADY RECEIVED FIRST COMMUNION & CONFIRMATION? Yes, we know that your family can be busy; however, we truly hope your child will continue their religious education long after receiving the sacraments. Your/their faith is a life-long learning process! Set some faith priorities!

STEWARDSHIP: GOD BLESSES YOUR STEWARD-SHIP GIFTS!

PRINT OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY – If you left a sepia tone picture of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in an ivory folder marked “free”, on the table by the church, please contact Helen. It’s so beautiful that I would like to order more copies. Thank you!

TODAY’S JOKE – What’s the Easter bunny’s fa-vorite dance? The Bunny Hop!

CATHOLIC RADIO – 1060 am – KRCN – “Change your station, change your life.” The topic on ‘Take 2 With Jerry & Debbie’ – on Tues-day, April 9, was “Sending Your Teens/Young Adults off to College”. There were some inter-esting comments. I suggest you check it out!

15 Minutes of Fame

May 8th St. Catherine of Siena; 14th Century Italian Mystic. Can you imagine being born the 25th child in the family? St. Catherine was a strong-willed and influential force within the politics of the papacy and state. Her "Dialogue", which she dictated while in a state of ecstasy, teaches us how to live our spiritual life to the fullest. June 5th Eucharist Miracles of the Saints; Fasting for years on only the Eucharist is a miraculous grace given to few. We will explore this and other amazing examples of Christ's infusion of supernatural union.

BEAUTIFUL FIRST COMMUNION DRESS – We recently received a donation of a brand new, beautiful size 8 white First Communion dress with sheer puffy sleeves. It is stunningly beautiful. If your daughter, granddaughter, or if you know anyone who would like this dress, you are most welcome to have it. Please contact Helen.
