Dear parents, caregivers and friends of the school, UNION MEETINGS Over the next few weeks the NZEI (primary teachers, support staff and principals union) and the PPTA (secondary teachers and principals union) are holding meetings throughout the country to discuss with members their concerns regarding the government’s “Global Budget” funding proposal. All Union members at St Francis Xavier Catholic School have been strongly encouraged to attend the local meeting on FRIDAY 16 th SEPTEMBER at 1.30pm. The school will remain “Open for Instruction” but normal classroom operation will be disrupted as we will have a skeleton staff. If parents choose to take their children home at the earlier time of 12.30pm you are welcome to do so but we encourage you to advise your child’s classroom teacher. BAPTISM A fortnight ago many of us witnessed twenty five of our students being baptised and this weekend there will be a few more. We congratulate all of these children for receiving this special Sacrament and becoming a member of the Catholic Church. I would also like to thank Mrs Jakicevich and Fr Chris for preparing these students for baptism. OLYMPIC MESSAGE As you would expect, over the past two weeks, the news has been saturated with coverage of the Olympic Games. We have heard athletes talking about their work ethic, their dreams and the hope that they have inspired a generation of young people to achieve similar success. Last night, Steven Adams, New Zealand's most successful basketball player, had a message for young people as well. His advice was, eat your vegetables, make your bed, do your homework and keep your nose clean. Now that is what I call good advice. I would add a few more items to that list...say your prayers and laugh lots. BREAKFAST FOR FATHERS All Dads are invited to our Fathers Day breakfast on Friday 2 nd of September at 7.45am in the school staffroom. This is an event for Dads so we kindly remind you that children are not invited. If you would like to attend then we would appreciate you completing the return slip below to the office so that we can get an indication of numbers for catering. The Fathers Day liturgy will follow the breakfast at 9.00am. Please RSVP by Wed 31st August.
