Mission & Outreach
Mission and Outreach Committee
A big thank you goes to all who helped with Outreach projects in May and June. St. Grego-ry's provided 60 books (!) for the Diocesan Reading program in Beulah, packed lunches for the Kids Food Basket and collected healthy snacks for the Kids Count Reading Camp in Mus-kegon.
You-Had-to-Be-There Department! Leslie Day was the star at a storytell-ing program for Kids Count, June 22. She kept the kids fascinated with crea-tive versions of “The Hobyah's,” “There Was an Old Lady Who Swal-lowed a Trout” and “Good Night, Owl.” The youngsters took part in each story, creating masks and props and acting out the tales. Marge Collinge, Lynne Gill and the Horans were Leslie's help-ers, and Lynne found himself “onstage” as one of the actors. The finale was Leslie's creepy tale, “Black Bubblegum.” Kids and grownups alike were spooked (in a fun way) by this classic make-you-jump tale.
More pictures of this event are on Page 3. Looks like everyone had a great time!!
Outreach will celebrate Lily Marx's ordination by supporting EXIT, whose acronym means “Empowering Ex-Offenders in Transition.” The program shares goals with Lily's former career as Superintendent of the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center. EXIT readies young men in Muskegon for success after release from prison.
EXIT teaches job skills, personal finance and parenting in a classroom setting. A second phase focuses on employment readiness. At the end participants transition into temporary employment with an assigned mentor.
St. Gregory's will collect items to support the classroom sessions with lunch items and grooming supplies. A “collection tub” in the narthex will list the items needed. We'll collect items through July 30.
The next Outreach meeting will be August 13 after the 10 am service. Everyone interested is invited to meet with us to plan fall activities.

Senior Warden’s Message
The Vestry and Ordination Committee have been busy planning Lily’s Ordination. We are very excited about having such an important Religious Ceremony in our
church. Not only is it the very first Ordination of a Priest for St. Gregory’s; it is for someone we all know and care about so much. We are expecting about 250 people to attend the service and the luncheon following the ceremony; therefore, we have decided to have the lunch at the Verdonis Event Center, just down Seminole near the corner of Seaway Drive. Both the Ordination and Luncheon will be a grand and we hope everyone that is able will attend. While we are concentrating on the Ordination, we are also preparing for the conclusion of Pastor Chris’ Priest of Charge contract. We have been working with the Diocese to find the best fit for St. Gregory’s. As soon as the recommendations have been finalized, an announcement will be made. Exciting things are happening at St. Gregory’s. We have new members, we are making some minor renovations and as always, we are a close church family. I am happy to be part of all of the excitement and hope you are as well. God’s Blessings to you all, Linda Scheerer, Senior Warden

Renovations Continue
The repurposing of the library area contin-ues to be on track. To summarize: To date, the bookshelves and books have been re-moved. Some reference books were kept and the rest were donated to the Norton Shores
Library’s annual book sale. Two bookshelves were moved to the back office; parishion-ers were offered the others. Furniture — couch, re-cliner, a coffee and an end table, and the ex-tra large conference table were all donated to the Rescue Mission.
Walls have been painted the same color as the hall and kitchen. All that’s left is the floor covering. On Tuesday, June 27th, Dave Holtrop, Jeff Closz and Dave Zapfi removed the old car-peting. After further inspection, the old tile, some of which is loose, was removed on July 1st. The new flooring installation is scheduled for July 5th. Outside, work needs to be done to “clean up” the look of the landscaping, especially in front of the Parish Hall. Unfortunately, “weed grass” has taken over and is threaten-ing to choke out bushes and flowers that were planted a year ago. The Good News is that the grass pulls out fairly easily; howev-er, it will take some peo-ple volunteering to clean out the weeds! Dave Holtrop, Junior Warden, will be organiz-ing a work bee, inside and out, to make St. Gregory’s shine for the Ordination, Arts Camp and beyond. Give Dave your name, how much time you can offer, and what you can help clean, whether inside or out. Let’s work together to make our proper-ty “Shine”!!
Thank You To the Boy Scouts
For installing Patio blocks in the
Memorial Courtyard path To make walking easier.
Arts Camp/VBS Returns
For a Third Year! Arts Camp 2017 is
July 30th through August 3rd this year. Some new and exciting additions will make this year’s camp better
than ever! Here’s what 4-11 year-olds can expect!
This year’s theme is
“SAINTS and HOLY HELPERS”.
Campers will enjoy activities centered around people, some famous and well-known, some not as much! Included in this year’s schedule will be Episcopalian United States Presidents, St. Francis of Assisi, Kateri Tekakwitha and St. Gregory the Great, for whom our church is named. Craft projects will include making a personal shield, a totem pole, stained glass art and sun-catchers, musical instruments, t-shirts, and other daily activities. Stories about the famous people and games, music and songs will also be included in the daily schedule. New this year will be the Artists-in-Residence, a different one each day with an extended block of time devoted to a theme-linked art project! The local artists are: Lacy from “Create-a-Frame”, Sarah Barnard, author and photographer, Robin Civis, Elementary Art Teacher, Lori Eslick, watercolor artist, and Josh Ledesma, middle school music teacher & St. Gregory’s di-rector of music. And campers get supper & a snack!! It’s a jam-packed, fun two and a half hours that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. On Thursday evening at 7:45pm, Campers will present from their songs and a short skit for family members. After the performance, their artwork will be on display for viewing and a cookies and punch reception will be held in the Parish Hall before the Campers collect their art projects to take home.
There are a number of opportunities to help, all Stewardship-linked! Time: Help with prep-aration to make the teachers & cooks jobs easier; offer to help Campers with an art pro-ject or craft, help with registration, serving meals or set-up/clean-up. Talent: Do you have a special talent that you can offer during
Camp? Let us know and we’ll sign you up!
Treasure: Check out the Camp Donation List . If you can help in anyway, we’d greatly appreciate your contribution. Contact Shelby Schweri, (231) 557-9242, to offer your help.

The Episcopal Church Welcomes You!
Address label
The first Grillin’ with Guitar Service and Picnic of the 2017 season had marginal weather for our outdoor service, & we were inside for the day. Grillmistress Marti Johnson cooked up delicious hot dogs to the delight of the congregation, who enjoyed many side
dishes and desserts furnished by parishioners
If you missed the June event ( it was Father’s Day), plan to join us for July and August on the third Sunday at 10am. Weather permitting, we’ll be outside for the service and picnic. Mark you calendars:
July 16th and August 20th !!
Grillin’ with Guitars Returns!
