Mission Statement
The Mission of St. Helena’s and St. Mary’s parish is to use the closeness of our community to promote the proclamation of the Good News, the beauty and richness of celebration, and the sharing of ourselves in service to God’s people. Believing in the equality of all within Christ’s family, we strive to have all people find their ministry in the church. We realize the importance of religious education to all members of the parish in helping them answer the call of Christ, to grow as ministers to our own Parish and to the world community.

From the La Salette Shrine Director's Desk
Today is such a special feast the celebration of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. It is a fitting way to bring this Holy Year to closure in which we have meditated on the extraordinary mercy and compassion of Jesus over this past year. That is because Jesus is a king like no other king in the history of humanity. I take a quote from the Living Liturgy 2016 which is published by Liturgical Press, page 256: "his reign is not one of power but of mercy, not one of selfservice but of selfgiving, not one of material wealth but of eternal salvation. His throne is a cross." With the elections so recently behind us it is difficult to even imagine our political leadership being more focused on serving and saving others rather than themselves. We can only pray that our political leaders and also our religious leaders would not turn in on themselves but turn out toward others, truly trying to help those who are without decent jobs, homeless, or with chronic illness. That would truly be a revolution like we have never seen before in our Country. One of the best examples of Jesus' kingship of mercy is the way he responded to one of the criminals hanging on his own cross at the side of Jesus. He knew that he had been condemned justly but that Jesus was fully innocent. His plea to Jesus goes straight to our hearts: "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus' response, with his own dying breathe, in such a tragic and violent scene, is full of hope and forgiveness: "Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." Our challenge is to do as Jesus shows us from his own example. It is to constantly strive to give of ourselves to others rather than be looking for our own interest. There is no way of getting around it. That means accepting the reality of the cross daily in our lives. The article I mentioned earlier sums it up well when it observes: "the cross is the door to Paradise." As we prepare for our Festival of Lights beginning in less than one week, let us pray for the grace to be aware that we are coming to adore not only Jesus born in a humble stable, but also Christ Our Savior and King of the whole Universe. Father John Sullivan M.S.

The Diocese sent out the following notice to all parishes this week regarding the distribution of Holy Communion. This change will begin on
November 19, 2016.
“We all know that the flu and cold season raises all sorts of questions with regards to the transmission of germs when the faithful receive the Precious Blood from a chalice.
For the seasons beginning with the First Sunday of Advent and, in fact, until Holy Thursday, Holy Communion is to be distributed only under the form of the Consecrated Host (except as noted for the special feeding need).”
