TRANSITIONAL DEACON ORDINATION

Praised be Jesus Christ! In case you’ve been wondering who the new deacon in town is, that’s me—Deacon Harold Escarcega. Bish-op Olmsted ordained me a few Sundays ago on Trinity Sunday, and I am assigned here to Saint Henry’s in Buckeye for the summer. I love the town and community already, and look forward to serving the community here until August. I was born and raised in North Scottsdale, and grew up going to St. Bernadette and St. Joan of Arc parishes. I went to high school at Veritas preparatory Academy in Phoenix. I also attended Benedic-tine College in Atchison, Kansas for one short semester in 2011. After God made it clear that I was called to join seminary that se-mester, I applied to the Diocese of Phoenix, and began seminary in the Fall of 2012. Here I am more than 9 years later! I love being a deacon, and really look forward to being a priest next year. Seminary is a long journey, and discovering your vocation often requires a lot of patience—you have to make time for quiet prayer with Jesus. But listen, and he will show you. He wants to be your friend, and always be with you. We are called to be friends with Jesus, anyway (the the-ological virtue of charity is “friendship with Christ”), so always take time to worship, adore, and, as St. Teresa of Avila once said, “waste time with Jesus.” Mass, and adoration, and confession are the best ways to do this. As for me, I love classical music, and have played classical piano, organ, and harpsichord for many years now; I’m also trained in oper-atic voice and enjoy getting together to sing different kinds of music, and attending concerts. I enjoy swimming, tennis, and weightlifting, too. I’m addicted to coffee, so you’re also welcome to take me out for a coffee anytime this summer. I look forward to meeting more of the community; always feel free to come up and say hello. God be with you always, and know of Christ’s deep desire to remain with you.

Today, we pray for all fathers: For our fathers, who have given us life and love, that we may

show them respect and love, For fathers who have lost a child through death, that their faith

may give them hope, and their family and friends support and console them.

And for fathers who have died, that God may bring them into the joy of his kingdom.

God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of pro-found respect.

Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. HAPPY

FATHER’S DAY

AREA ROAD CONSTRUCTION Please be careful when driving to/from our parish church. Con-struction will continue for some time yet. Remember that detours could pop up at any moment. Se-curity and police are monitoring the area for safety in the con-struction zones, so drive proper-ly. New housing will continue to bring heavy equipment and con-struction vehicles along the roads in our area. By 2023, this area will have quite a different look to it! And by 2025, we hope to have beautiful Catholic Church right in the middle of it all.=

ORDENACION DE DIACONO TRASICIONAL

¡Alabado sea Jesucristo! En caso de que se haya preguntado quién es el nuevo diácono de la ciudad, ese soy yo: el diácono Harold Escarcega. El obispo Olmsted me ordenó hace unos domingos el Domingo de la Trinidad y estoy asignado aquí a San Enrique en Buckeye durante el verano. Ya amo la ciudad y la comunidad, y es-pero poder servir a la comunidad aquí hasta agosto. Nací y crecí al Norte de Scottsdale, y crecí yendo a las parroquias de Santa Bernadette y San Juana de Arco. Fui a la escuela secun-daria en la Academia preparatoria Veritas en Phoenix. También asistí al Colegio Benedictino en Atchison, Kansas durante un breve semestre en 2011. Después de que Dios me dejó en claro que es-taba llamado a ingresar al seminario ese semestre, solicité la admi-sión a la Diócesis de Phoenix y comencé el seminario en el otoño de 2012. ¡Y 9 años después aquí estoy! Me encanta ser diácono y espero ser sacerdote el próximo año. El seminario es un viaje lar-go, y descubrir tu vocación a menudo requiere mucha paciencia; tienes que hacer tiempo para orar en silencio con Jesús. Pero es-cuche y él se lo mostrará. Quiere ser tu amigo y estar siempre con-tigo. De todos modos, estamos llamados a ser amigos de Jesús (la virtud teológica de la caridad es la “amistad con Cristo”), así que siempre tómate el tiempo para adorar, adorar y, como dijo una vez Santa Teresa de Ávila, “perder el tiempo con Jesús.
