“Strive to enter through the narrow gate.” Nobody likes to be disappointed. It can be a difficult lesson but one that we all need to learn in life. The only way to avoid such disappoint-ments is to be prepared by having the proper expectations and knowing the given situation and the possible outcomes at hand. Our Gospel story tells of those who were un-doubtedly disappointed. We can all imagine standing and knocking on someone's door you assumed knew you and being told I do not know where you are from? Or even more se-verely “Go away you evildoers.” This story car-ries a deeper meaning for all of us. It is telling us that simply knowing the Lord is not enough to be saved. Jesus tells the man to enter through the narrow gate, meaning there is a small chance you may gain eternal salvation but there is not room for everyone. Many will attempt it but not make it. A relationship with Christ is not an insurance policy whereby we pay our premiums and ex-pect to receive a settlement when needed. This relationship with the Son of God is not transac-tional we simply cannot do some good deed and expect to receive the gift of salvation as payment in return. Salvation is indeed a free gift, undeserved, no matter how much we feel we deserve it. The master locks the door on the evildoers, barring entry to them. The frightening thing is that many of those locked out thought they knew the Lord. But knowing Him is not enough, it is in loving Him and following Him that we re-ceive our gift of salvation. God bless, Deacon John

DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL?

The Tribunal is available to help people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two reali-ties. On one hand the durable bond of mar-riage. This is God’s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though a Catholic wedding was celebrated,

perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability? The annulment procedure addresses these cir-cumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please tele-phone the Tribunal Office at 222 North l7th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 (215) 587-3750

St. Hilary’s Parish—Looks what’s new! We have installed a ramp with railings at the front doors of our Church. Also a Ramp has been added at the doors adjacent to our large parking lot facing the school. We have also freshly painted all of our school hallways and classrooms and the side en-trance to our church from the school.

The life we Live Sometimes we may not realize that every-thing we do, affects not only our lives but touches others too. For every time you offer someone a help-ing hand, every time you show a friend you care and understand. Every Time you have a kind and gentle word to give, you help someone find beauty in this precious life we live

My Cross Dear Lord, help me to carry the cross that life has given me. As you share with us the new light of Easter Sunday morning, lighten by burden and in-spire me with new hope.

ST. HILARY OF POITIERS PARISH—INTRODUCES A NEW WAY TO COMMUNICATE Flocknote is an engaging communication service, created BY Catholics FOR Catholic parish-es. Flocknote helps to reach people where they are already at – in their email inboxes. There’s nothing for people to download, or pick up after church. Flocknote serves the unique purpose of assisting parishioners in their quest to stay up-to-date with their parish’s news and information. For those who have signed up for our flocknote communication hopefully you have enjoyed the infor-mation that we have shared with you over the past weeks. In additional to our spiritual segment we are able to keep you informed as to any parish based information you should be aware of. Please encourage others to join.

(detach below, and return it in the Sunday collection basket or to Rectory – thanks!)
