St. Ignatius Of Loyola Catholic School SCHOOL ACTIVITY GUIDE

This document was last updated Oct. 1 2015 *Please read your monthly newsletter for possible updates/changes

Welcome To St. Ignatius Of Loyola Catholic School

This summary has been compiled for you by your Catholic School Council and the staff of St. Ignatius school, to increase awareness of the

many educational opportunities that take place at St. Ignatius each school year. The activities listed in this handbook allow students to

build new skills, make friends and have fun while learning. These activities also allow adults to engage in the school community, teach

children about giving back through volunteering, and work with other adults committed to partnering in their child’s education. Thanks

to the teachers, parents, family members and students that work hard to make our school an exceptional place to learn and grow.

As this handbook is not an exhaustive list of all St. Ignatius activities,

please refer to the school newsletter every month (available on

our website), to obtain important details about school events. Students

should also listen to daily announcements for additional details

about school clubs/teams/special events.

Every volunteer hour makes a difference in our school.

Many members of our school community work hard to make St.

Ignatius a special place for children to learn. We

are always in need of more help and new ideas,

so please come out to the Catholic School Council

meetings (First Wednesday of every month at

7:15pm) or sign up to volunteer by visiting:

“ Parents are vital partners in education. They influence their children’s attitudes about learning

and support learning at home. They are a vital link between home and school and when they

become involved in the life of the school, they make our schools better places to learn, grow and

thrive. Teachers who actively partner with parents enjoy better parent relationships, improved

student attendance and classroom behaviour, improved student achievement, feel supported by

parents and have higher job satisfaction” - www.ontario.ca/EDUparents

We have numerous parent/teacher partnership opportunities in our

school. These initiatives benefit our students as parents and teachers work together to provide a positive learning environment:

St. Ignatius Of Loyola Is A

“Gold Star” Eco School!

What does it mean to be an Eco School?

The Eco-Schools programme provides a simple framework to enable our school to

analyse its operations and become more sustainable. By following the programme,

our school will become a more stimulating place in which to learn, whilst reducing the

environmental impact of the whole school on the community.

Eco Schools are rooted in a genuine desire to help children become more effective

citizens by encouraging them to take responsibility for the future of their own

environment. It is not about environmental excellence, it is about our school starting to

look at how it impacts upon the environment and how this can be managed.
