Please consider including your St. James family when planning your will.

LISTEN TO JESUS AND THE PROPHETS

Prophets have always had a tough row to hoe. Their words, often unwelcome, are used against them to persecute and even kill them. Such was the fate of the Old Testament prophets, and Jeremiah is a great example of this. Jesus endured opposition from sinners, and did not turn back from a shameful death in order to rise to a glorious new life. The ulti-mate prophet, Jesus sought to warn the people of his time and ours of the divisions that his words would cause, showing himself to be the prophet of all time. We all need to look at our divisions and dilemmas in light of Jesus’ teachings and warnings, and seek to understand all that he has proclaimed and taught about what will happen if we fail to listen Copyright © J. ALTAR SERVER TRAINING SEPTEMBER 21, 2019

Saturday at 10:00 am at St. James For current altar servers and those who wish to join this

valuable ministry. If you have any questions, please contact Fr. Lijo or Birdie Ray at the parish office.

Why Register In the Church Many people attend Mass here at our church, but are not registered parishioners. It is important to be registered and use your offering envelopes so that if you ever request a letter, whether it’s for being a godparent, sponsor, marriage, confirmation, tax statement or any other purpose, we can check our records and see that you attend Mass here. This would also benefit you if you would like to have your child enrolled in next year’s Religious Education Program. If you are not registered in the church, we cannot issue or sign any type of letter stating that you are a member of the parish, even if you attend Mass here. If you would like to register and receive offering envelopes, you must complete our registra-tion form. You may also use the parishioner’s updated form (green) located on the church lobby shelf for any changes to your address, email or phone number. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

St. James Parishioners—We want to keep all parishioners in-formed of parish activities and other important information re-garding our community. Email is a great way to communicate with you. We will try to minimize the number of emails sent out. If you are currently not receiving any of the St. James emails, please check with the parish office to see if we have your correct email on file. Thank you!

St. James Community Please be respectful of our Sanctuary.

Gum chewing in church is not acceptable. Please do not remove gum from your mouth and leave it on the seat. It is unsanitary and costly to remove from the chairs. Also, do not bring food or any drinks (other than water); and please do not leave water bottles and other debris in the church. We want all to keep in mind the reverence of God’s House. Careful attention should be given to appropriate attire at all times. Thank you and God Bless

Diocesan Conference

The annual Diocese of Las Vegas Conference will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 6th and 7th at the Texas Station Hotel and Casino. The theme this year is “United in Christ.”

This is a time for all the children of God, from every parish in the diocese, to come together, worship together, learn together and fellowship together.

You can still register online at www.lasvegasdiocesanconference.org

We want St. James parishioners to sign up and show up so that we can be “United in Christ” with our brothers and sisters across our diocese.

Bethlehem Bethlehem Wood carving will be here at St. James, Sunday, August 25th to sell olive wood carvings from the Holy Land. Proceeds from the sale will be used to support more than 600 Catholic and Christian Families living in Bethle-hem who are facing very hard time because of the clashes in the Middle East. It caused serious harm to those families. It will make a great gift for your loved ones. Your support is needed.

St. James Ministries/Organiza ons We are in need of your support for our St. James Souvenir Journal. Please make the necessary arrangements with Robert Bass for any pictures you would like him to take. We must receive your ads no later than September 20th. Once again thank you for your con nuous support. God Bless.

My Dear Parishioners,

On the weekend of August 17, 2019 we will take up a second col-lection for the rural parishes and missions within our Diocese.

These parishes and missions depend on our generosity to help meet the increasing financial burdens of the upkeep of buildings, utilities and support of parish activities. Catholic parishes, such as St. Pat-rick in Tonopah, support the missions of St. Barbara in Round Mountain, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Fish Lake and St. Michael in McGill.

They depend on our generosity to help them provide religious edu-cation programs and evangelization programs for their parishioners; they also depend on the visits of one of our priests, assigned to a neighboring parish, for Sunday Mass. Many must travel hours each week to attend Sunday Mass.

I ask for your generosity and support of these rural parishes and missions and of your sisters and brothers living in the Diocese of Las Vegas. Please help to keep these rural Catholic communities alive, because without our assistance, a Catholic presence in these communities would cease.

Assuring you of my prayers, I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ,

+George Leo Thomas Bishop of Las Vegas
