ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH MISSION STATEMENT

Rooted in the Catholic Faith, in order to build up the reign of God, the mission of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church is to live out the message of Jesus Christ by worshipping God by serving the world.

SEEDS OF FAITH There is a brevity, a certain terseness, in the scrip-ture readings for Easter Sunday. Peter’s speech in Acts is built of direct, pointed sentences. Paul’s letters are based on straightforward creed-like statements. Even the Gospel story only briefly recounts what will turn out to be one of the most remarkable events in human history—the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Advertising agents call these encapsulated points of information “bullet points.” Scripture schol-ars call them kerygmata, or “kernels” of our faith. Ac-tually, “kernels” or “seeds” are good terms for these statements, since throughout the Easter season, we will hear in the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of Paul, and the Gospel accounts of the days following the Resurrection exactly how these kerygmata began to flower, how they continued to grow through the life of the early church. May these Easter “seeds” of faith serve a similar purpose for us, too, so that the life of the Risen Christ will flourish in us and through our witness in the coming days. copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

If you would like to use your debit/credit card for your weekly offering, please call the church office. You can also set up automatic deposits from your bank to the church. Thank you for your contributions. Please consider including your St. James family when planning your will.

Bishop Thomas--Lenten Obligations

Bishop Thomas has decreed that in accord with Canons 87, 1249-1253, all of the faithful of the Diocese of Las Vegas are dispensed from the obligatory days of fasting and abstinence (Fridays during Lent and Good Friday). He asks that the faith-ful perform other works of piety and charity, and to deny themselves by fulfilling their own obligations more faithfully.

***IMPORTANT NOTICE*** Unfortunately, we must place a hold on fingerprinting for now. We are hopeful new schedule dates will be announced in the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience.

Why Register In the Church Many people attend Mass here at our church, but are not registered parishioners. It is important to be registered and use your offering envelopes so that if you ever request a letter, whether it’s for being a godparent, sponsor, marriage, confirmation, tax statement or any other purpose, we can check our records and see that you attend Mass here. This would also benefit you if you would like to have your child enrolled in next year’s Religious Education Program. If you are not registered in the church, we cannot issue or sign any type of letter stating that you are a member of the parish, even if you attend Mass here. If you would like to register and receive offering envelopes, you must complete our registration form. You may also use the parishioner’s updated form (green) located on the church lobby shelf for any changes to your address, email or phone number. If you have any questions, please contact the par-ish office at 702-648-6606.

~~ Priest’s Message ~~

Dear Parishioners, I trust you are all well, as we prepare for the Easter season. Within a week we will celebrate the Paschal Mystery of our Savior and relive and rededicate ourselves to God through our faith and witnessing life. Easter is the greatest and the most important feast in the Church. This feast has been called “the feast of all feasts.” Easter is a time of new life. That which was dead now lives. Darkness is gone. Life has a new meaning. Easter is all about bringing out the best from within us. There is a lot of goodness and beauty within and around us in spite of the struggles that all of us now face. The question we must ask ourselves is: “Will we seize this opportunity to be a witness to our Risen Lord during this season?” There can be no better opportunity that God has orchestrat-ed for us to be a witness at this difficult time. I started off this New Year with a lot of hope and expectations. It was difficult for me to leave St. Lawrence Martyr Parishioners because they have been my home for past 10 years, but the warm welcome and acceptance from St. James Parishioners gave me comfort and peace. I was looking forward to celebrating my first Easter and the joy of the Risen Lord with you as one family in our Church, but that is not possi-ble during this season. Although our Church building is closed, our hearts are open for the Grace and the New Life in Christ Jesus. I sincerely thank you all for your warm welcome and for considering me as part of your family. Your faith and life are an inspiration to me, and I am truly blessed to be part of this wonderful parish and to serve you. I see that most of you consider St. James as your extended fami-ly. Thank you so much for your prayers, support and great love. In the coming days I will be calling you individually to let you know that I am praying for you and thinking of you, therefore if you hear an Indian accent please do not hang up on me. 😊 I also have a gift for you this Easter. As you know, we cannot physi-cally come together as a parish family, but you can make your home a church. I was really blessed to talk with formed.org and got a subscrip-tion to one of the best Catholic websites for free movies and books for 40 days for each person in our parish family. I humbly request to you all please make use of this opportunity. There are plenty of Christian movies, documentaries, talks, teaching and inspirational talks for all ages both in English and Spanish. These facilities are available on your cell phone too. Easter reminds us that every Good Friday in our lives is followed by Easter Sunday, and that Jesus will let us share the power of his resurrection. Remember that we will overcome this Coronavirus as well, because Christ has conquered sin and death. We are the Easter People; let us all try to bring out the best within ourselves. "CHRIST IS RISEN!" "HE IS RISEN INDEED!" Yours Sincerely,

Rev. Binoy Akkalayil Lucka, O.SS.T Administrator

Happy Easter
