PRINCIPAL’S CORNER I WILL MISS YOU

Sincere thanks to all of you who spent some time every week reading this corner of the Parish Bulle-tin reserved to the Pastor.

I always avoided writing to you as a theologian or as an exegete or linguist; I tried to share with you instead my per-sonal and spontaneous reflections and meditations on the Sacred Scriptures proclaimed at weekend masses. Once called and ordained as a priest of the Church, there is no going back. Look at Elisha who, once called to become a prophet, slaughters his oxen and burns the plowing equipment. That tells us how seriously this former farmer is taking the call: no bridges left behind which might tempt Elisha to return to his former profession. Jesus tells candidates for discipleship: once you have set a hand to the plow, you are not even al-lowed to look at what is left behind. That is to say I am not retiring from my priesthood since I was ordained for life and that I will continue to min-ister to God’s people in other capacities. But I will be at the end of my term as pastor of St. Jerome. I can’t tell you more about my retirement since I still have to discover what it is. I will contin-ue to count on your support and prayers so that God bless my new journey. Fr. Cletus

Hello St. Jerome Parish, This week brought children back into the school for Va-cation Bible School. It was great to see their smiles when they peeked into the office. Summer is good for all of us. The children are relaxed and happy and we school people feel like there’s just a bit more time to get things accom-plished, so we are relaxed too. Here is a picture from our last mass with Father Cletus. This is GG from third grade presenting Father with her class’s promise to strive for holiness.

How is it looking for next year? We are anticipating be-tween 135-140 students in our K-8. Our class sizes are growing and next year we’ll graduate at least 14 8th grad-ers. We still have openings; so let someone with school-aged children know what is to love about St. Jerome School. We have hired our part time office assistant and part time Middle School science teacher. That is a big relief! I look forward to celebrating Father Cletus with you after 10:30 Mass. I hope your summers are splendid! Summer School Office hours: M-Th 9-4 (Please call ahead if you need something as we do have meetings off site on some days.) SCRIP is in the parish office for the summer. Best to you this summer! Anne Gattman, Principal

Peter’s Pence Collection: July 6-7. We will have a second collection for Peter’s Pence July 6-7 and not the scheduled dates of June 29-30. “A little mercy makes the world less cold and more just” – Pope Francis, Angelus, 2013 The Peter’s Pence Collection provides funds for Pope Francis to respond to those suffering from war, oppres-sion and natural disasters. For example, funds have aided the victims of the powerful 2017 earthquake in the south-ern part of Lesbos, Greece, where the village of Vrisa was destroyed. The Peter’s Pence collection is taken in par-ishes the weekend of June 29th – 30th. Your generosity is an opportunity to join with Pope Francis and support his works of charity around the world, so please be as gener-ous as you are able.
