St. John the Baptist Catholic Church • Somonauk, Illinois
Dear Parishioners, Today we have the inspiring story of Jesus encounter with the Samaritan woman who represents every human sinner. She didn’t even know she was thirsty until He
brought it up. However, if anybody was thirsty for love it was this woman. Talk about someone who is empty, someone who needed love, someone who is thirsting for more, someone who could not find that in any thing on this earth. She went through six men and not one of them satisfied her thirst and now she meets
Jesus, who promises to satisfy her thirst not only in this moment, but to satisfy her thirst forever. The deepest need in everyone’s heart is to be loved. Everyone’s heart has the same need, that we would be loved. And, so that is the thirst that He wants to satisfy in this woman and that is the thirst He wants to satisfy in us.
She is particularly struck by how much Jesus knows about her. She reports to her fellow Samaritans “He told me everything I ever did.” That is not what she found so surprising though. What truly astonished her was that despite that knowledge, Jesus didn’t judge her, but still loved her. Jesus loves her despite being aware
of all her faults. Jesus loves us as well, despite our many shortcomings and sins. It’s when we bring to him all these things inside of us that we hate, all of these things that keep us focused on ourselves, all of these things that make us think that we are unlovable, when we bring all these to him, He says to us, "Yes I know.
I was right there when you did it. Yet, I have never stopped loving you." Jesus calls us back to himself this Lent. He invites us to reconciliation in the confessional. He is waiting for us there. That being the case, make sure to make a good confession this Lent.
God Bless, Fr. Butler

EVERY 40 SECONDS, SOMEONE IN THE
U.S. IS HAVING A STROKE Stroke Scan Plus will be at the Parish Center on Thurs.
April 2 to provide life-saving, wellness ultrasound
screenings. It is important to perform preventive
maintenance for ourselves yearly. Do you have high
cholesterol, diabetes, or family history of heart disease,
stroke, abdominal aneurysm or internal cancers? If so,
do not miss this opportunity for early detection of a
possibly serious disease. These screenings are typically
NOT performed at your annual check-up, and insurance
companies may not pay for them unless you are sympto-
matic. Diagnostic versions of these screenings cost
thousands of dollars in a hospital. Stroke Scan Plus will
be offering them to you for $159 for all 7 combined
ultrasound screenings (stroke, AAA, AFIG and organs).
Insurance is NOT necessary and appointments are lim-
ited. Stroke Scan will be available at the church for you
to register on March 28&29 or please call 832-437-7355
or toll free 1-866-935-7226 to schedule an appointment
today for you or a loved one. The screening will take
place in a classroom at the Parish Center.
