Partner Parish Mission Statement
We, the partner parishes of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and Saint Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes
of the Diocese of Greensburg, celebrate our Roman Catholic Faith and Traditions. Our parish
families strive to respond to our baptismal promises by living the Word of God and making the
Eucharist the center of our lives.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we dedicate ourselves to be witnesses of the Gospel of
Jesus Christ to all our brothers and sisters.
The Blood of Christ
At communion time, many
Catholics do not partake of
the Blood of Christ. Some
churches do not offer it. In
those that do, some people
abstain. Some worry about the
sanitation of drinking from a
common cup. Others probably
find the idea of “drinking
blood” a bit repulsive. Per-
haps it is. But so is the idea of
“eating flesh.” Our commun-
ion in Christ is a bold gesture
of faith and commitment.
Drinking the Blood of Christ is an important expression of
our faith. Jesus asked his followers at the Last Supper to
eat his Body and drink his Blood. He didn’t recommend
just one or the other.
The Letter to the Hebrews expresses the significance of
the Blood of Christ. In the past, the high priest entered the
Holy of Holies, the heart of the temple, with the blood of
goats and calves. The sprinkling of this blood forgave the
sins of those who were defiled.
When Christ ascended into heaven, he entered the holiest
of holy places. He brought with him his own blood—for
our sakes. “How much more will the blood of Christ, who
through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to
God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship
the living God.” Drinking the Blood of Christ forgives our
sins, frees us from “dead works”, and makes us more wor-
thy to worship. It is an act of faith, thanksgiving, and for-
giveness.

“Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them and
they all drank from it.” -Mark 14:23
Jesus, the perfect steward, gave thanks, just before He gave Himself to us completely for our salvation. He offers us the chance to drink from His cup. In the Eucharist, we meet Christ personally and, if we listen to Him, we know what drinking from His cup means our own sacrifice – giving up some of our time, talent and treasure to do His work on earth.

The Vocations Collection a few weeks ago was an out-standing success. Between the three churches that the Knights serve (MOS, St. John, St. Mary), a total of just over $2,500 was donated. The full amount was combined with all KofC Councils in the Diocese of Greensburg and presented to Bishop Malesic to help fund Seminarian pro-grams. Thank you for your generosity.
