FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD – Today we celebrate this beautiful feast reminding us of the beginning of our Lord’s ministry as He went forth to proclaim the Good News. With this feast we complete the Christmas season so the beautiful Christmas decorations will come down tomorrow as we begin Ordinary Time once again. The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is also a time for each of us to remind ourselves of the dignity we have as children of God by virtue of our own Baptism. In addi-tion, we also renew our commitment to follow our baptismal call to love God above all things and our neighbor as ourselves. As we bless ourselves with holy water at the beginning of Mass today let it serve as a reminder of our own call to service in the Church. WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP? – Our parish is currently in need of more people to assist in various apos-tolates. We need more Lectors (especially male lectors), Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Ushers. At some Masses we have a sufficient number but at others, we are in need. We also need more Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick and homebound. Please consider the possibility of serving in one of these apostolates of the parish. Your assistance is greatly appreciated, and you will find that serving the Lord is a great fulfillment. All training will be provided. Applications are available at the rectory. ALTAR SERVERS - If you have a child in grades 4 and up, he is eligible to become an Altar Server. We will be having training for new Altar Servers later this month. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please stop by the rectory to fill out a registration form within the next two weeks. Serving at the altar is a tremendous privilege for a child. It allows him to: - develop a closer relationship with God - have a better understanding of the Mass - learn reverence and discipline - learn to have a spirit of cooperation with others - get to know the parish priests and consider a priestly or Religious vocation - overcome shyness and fear of being “in front of others” The way I like to think of service at the altar is to remember the Last Supper. Our Lord was there with the Apostles. However, there were others who were there as well and who assisted: those who pre-pared the meal, those who served it and those who cleaned up. What a privilege it must have been for them to be so close to Our Lord and the Apostles and serve them on such a momentous night! In a similar way, our Altar Servers are those who serve Our Lord in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and are so close to the Holy of Holies. FIESTA DEL BAUTISMO DE NUESTRO SEÑOR - Hoy celebramos esta hermosa fiesta que nos recuerda del comienzo del ministerio de nuestro Señor como él salió a proclamar la Buena Nueva. Con esta fiesta se completa el tiempo de Navidad por lo que removeremos las hermosas decoraciones de Navidad maña-na al comenzar una vez más el Tiempo Ordinario. La fiesta del Bautismo del Señor es también un tiempo para que cada uno de nosotros recordemos la dignidad que tenemos como hijos de Dios en virtud de nuestro propio bautismo. Además, también renovamos nuestro compromiso de seguir a nuestra llamada bautismal de amar a Dios sobre todas las cosas y a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos. Al bendecirnos con agua bendita al comienzo de la Misa de hoy, que sirva como un recordatorio de nuestro propio llamado al servicio en la Iglesia. ¿TE GUSTARÍA AYUDAR? - Nuestra parroquia necesita actualmente más gente para asistir en diversos apostolados. Sin embargo, hubieron otros que estaban allí también y quien asistieron: los que prepararon la comida, los que sirvieron y los que limpiaron ¡Qué privilegio debe haber sido para ellos al estar tan cerca a Nuestro Señor y a los Apóstoles y servirles en esa noche tan memorable! De ma-nera similar, nuestros monaguillos son los que sirven a nuestro Señor en el Santo Sacrificio de la Misa y están tan cerca del Sagrado de los Sagrados.
