CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION P: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. P: And Jonah called out, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh will be

overthrown. C: And the people of Nineveh believed God. P: The people of Nineveh repented by fasting and putting on

sackcloth. Let us repent by confessing our sins. C: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful

and unclean. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and

  • lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

P: When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them. In like manner, God also forgives us.

    C: Amen.

PSALM OF THE DAY P: Lord, have mercy. C: Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. P: From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is

to be praised! C: Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the

name of the Lord. P: Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and

forevermore! C: The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the

heavens! P: He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash

    heap, C: to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people. All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Let us pray; Almighty and everlasting God, mercifully look upon

our infirmities and stretch forth the hand of your majesty to heal and defend us; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

    C: Amen.

OLD TESTAMENT READING Jonah 3:1-5, 10 1 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.” 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days' journey in breadth. 4 Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's journey. And he called out, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” 5 And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. 10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.

R: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  • NEW TESTAMENT READING 1 Corinthians 7:29-32a 29 This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, 30 and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, 31 and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away. 32 I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord.

R: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark the 1st chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord.

HOLY GOSPEL Mark 1:14-20 14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” 16 Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ.

    Church Announcements for This Week!

Worship With Us Each Week All are welcome to join us for worship each week. We are following the safety guidelines that are put out by the government and health officials to make sure all are as safe as they can be. If you are not comfortable joining us in person. We also live-stream our 8 AM worship service on our Facebook page and church website. We post these services to our YouTube channel shortly after the service is completed. We are also recording our services, so if you would like a digital copy on DVD or flash drive just let us know.

Financial Update Financially we have had some highs and some lows. Our spending has outpaced our offerings by approximately $41,000. Our giving has been steady, but not quite up to where we usually are. Our expenses have stayed about the same. Even if no one is in the building we still have an electric bill, the lawn still needs to be mowed and our employees need to be paid. As bleak as this looks, we were fortunate enough to receive a Payroll Protection Loan for $31,000. This brings our shortfall to right around $10,000. We truly appreciate all the

  • offerings that you send in. We ask that you continue to do so, or if possible increase a little bit so we can end the year on a positive note. Remember you can give offerings in person at church on Sunday, drop them off at church, mail them to church, or give online through the link on our webpage. Thank you again for all your support.

New Scrip Fundraiser Thank you to all who purchased your Christmas Gift cards through the Scrip Program. With your help we raised well over $500 that will go to close the operating shortfall that we are facing. The great news is that this fundraise is ongoing! You can buy gift cards through the program and the church will receive a portion of the proceeds. There are hundreds of gift cards available for purchase. If you know you are going to make a large purchase you can buy a gift card and use that to make your purchase and the church will receive a percentage back from the company. You can even do this with many grocery stores to purchase your food or even hotels and airline tickets. The cards are shipped either to the church, right to your house, or for some, you can get an e-gift card. Follow the instructions below to get started. Download the free Raiseright app, or go to www.shopwithscrip.com use enrollment code 24L3EC4D75957.

Seeking Volunteer We are looking for somebody that is willing to help keep our church website and/or social media accounts up to date. This person would be responsible for posting, updating, and possibly redesigning what we have out on the internet for the public to see and receive information about our church. Please talk with Joe or Amy Tiedt if you are interested.

Year End Voters Meeting On Jaunary 31st after the 10:30 service in the sanctuary we will be having our year in review meeting. Each ministry area will highlight certain things that took place during 2020. Please plan
