EMBRACING THE WILL OF THE FATHER We now enter the final stage of our journey in the season of Lent. We draw near to the crux of the all this

Lenten preparations – the experience of the Paschal Mystery. It is cele-brating the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus. This week is punctuated by moments of silence and deeper reflections on mystery of God’s love for us – “No greater love that a man has than to give his life for his friend.” It is utterly reassuring when Jesus spoke these words. He is giving up His life for us – His friends. He has considered us His friends and not enemies. He has invited us and has welcomed us into his friendship. He wants to show to us how much He loves us by accepting all that was to happen in Jerusalem. He did not remain at Mt. Tabor but continued His journey to Jerusalem. It was easier for Him remain at Mt. Tabor but it was not the will of His Father. The Law and the Prophets pointed out the path through which Jesus will make salvation accessible to us. By the Paschal Mystery, He would open for us the gift of life eter-nal with the Father. Sin has alienated us from the embrace of our Fa-ther. But Jesus will help us by His death on the cross to reconcile us to the Father and to one another – to pass over from death to life. This week we are called to respond to His invitation to die with Him through this Holy Week so that we rise also with Him into the East-er of new life. Each day of this week is an invitation to understand what we need to renew in us in order that we can reflect in our person the face of God to others. Palm Sunday is an invitation to embrace the will of the Father no matter where it will lead us. It will require willingness to embrace the reality of our own life with its difficulties and challenges and to accept it responsibly. We see our life as an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others but it will require from us a lot of dying to ourselves and our selfishness. On Holy Monday to Wednesday we are called to reflect on the human conditions that we find ourselves in and how we are to respond to it. We encounter realities of jealousy, evil intent, betrayal, lies, self-ishness, overconfidence, blindness, and a lot more. Jesus calls us to respond to it with right attitude, proper set of values, correct priorities, true understanding of our person with its weakness and vulnerability, and above all LOVE that will help us to see beyond the human frailties and to respond with patience, understanding and forgiveness. Holy Thursday leads us to the meaning of our being Christian rooted in the celebration of the Eucharist. We understand that to be like Christ we should be “willing to wash each other’s feet”, that is, to be the servant of all. We are called to seek the good of all and not our own. We are called to go down from our seat of self-importance and assume the role of a slave – humble service. Good Friday is an invitation to bask in the richness of God’s mercy and love and realize where it is leading us. Jesus points out on the cross the message of forgiveness in which we are called to forgive others and ourselves as well. We are called to see hope in a God who gives opportunities to receive His grace of mercy even at the hour of our death. We see Jesus self-emptying by giving us the last important treasure that He has – His mother in order to help and guide us. He expresses His thirst for us as He direct us to quench the His thirst in the person of those in need of love, care, compassion and acceptance. He assures us in the midst of overwhelming feeling of desolation that He is there and will strengthen us. We just need to call out in faith and hope. He invites us to complete our own mission and be ready to say in the end without regrets: “Father into your hands I commend my spirit.”

Ahora entramos en la etapa final de nuestro viaje en la tempora-da de Cuaresma. Nos acercamos al punto capital de todos estos pre-parativos cuaresmales: la experiencia del Misterio Pascual. Está cele-brando el sufrimiento, la muerte y la resurrección de Jesús. Esta sema-na está marcada por momentos de silencio y profundas reflexiones sobre el misterio del amor de Dios por nosotros: "No hay mayor amor que un hombre que da su vida por su amigo". Es completamente re-confortante cuando Jesús pronunció estas palabras. Él está dando Su vida por nosotros - Sus amigos. Él nos ha considerado sus amigos y no sus enemigos. Nos ha invitado y nos ha acogido en su amistad. Quiere mostrarnos cuánto nos ama aceptando todo lo que iba a suceder en Jerusalén. No permaneció en el monte Tabor, pero con-tinuó su camino a Jerusalén. Era más fácil para él permanecer en el monte Tabor, pero no era la voluntad de su Padre. La Ley y los Pro-fetas señalaron el camino por el cual Jesús haría que la salvación sea accesible para nosotros. Por el misterio pascual, nos abriría el don de la vida eterna con el Padre. El pecado nos ha alejado del abrazo de nuestro Padre. Pero Jesús nos ayudará por Su muerte en la cruz a reconciliarnos al Padre ya los unos a los otros - para pasar de muerte a vida. Esta semana estamos llamados a responder a Su invitación a morir con Él durante esta Semana Santa, para que también nos levant-emos con Él en la Pascua de la nueva vida. Cada día de esta semana es una invitación a entender lo que necesitamos renovar en nosotros para que podamos reflejar en nuestra persona el rostro de Dios a los demás. El Domingo de Ramos es una invitación a abrazar la voluntad del Padre sin importar a dónde nos lleve. Requerirá voluntad para abrazar la realidad de nuestra propia vida con sus dificultades y de-safíos y aceptarla responsablemente. Vemos nuestra vida como una oportunidad para hacer una diferencia en la vida de los demás, pero nos requerirá mucho morir a nosotros mismos y nuestro egoísmo. En el Lunes Santo hasta el Miércoles estamos llamados a re-flexionar sobre las condiciones humanas en las que nos encontramos y cómo debemos responder a él. Nos encontramos con realidades de celos, mal intención, traición, mentiras, egoísmo, exceso de confianza, ceguera, y mucho más. Jesús nos llama a responder con actitud cor-recta, conjunto de valores, prioridades correctas, verdadera com-prensión de nuestra persona con su debilidad y vulnerabilidad y sobre todo AMOR que nos ayudará a ver más allá de las debilidades hu-manas ya responder con paciencia, comprensión y perdón. El Jueves Santo nos lleva al sentido de ser cristiano arraigado en la celebración de la Eucaristía. Entendemos que para ser como Cristo debemos estar "dispuestos a lavarnos los pies", es decir, ser el siervo de todos. Estamos llamados a buscar el bien de todos y no el nuestro. Estamos llamados a bajar de nuestro asiento de importancia propia y asumir el papel de un esclavo – un servicio humilde. El Viernes Santo es una invitación para disfrutar de la riqueza de la misericordia y amor de Dios y darnos cuenta hacia dónde nos está conduciendo. Jesús señala en la cruz el mensaje del perdón en el que estamos llamados a perdonar a los demás y a nosotros mismos. Estamos llamados a ver esperanza en un Dios que da oportunidades para recibir Su gracia de misericordia incluso en la hora de nuestra muerte. Vemos a Jesús vaciarse a sí mismo dándonos el último tesoro importante que Él tiene - Su madre para ayudarnos y guiarnos. Él ex-presa su sed por nosotros mientras nos dirige a apagar la sed en la persona de aquellos que necesitan amor, cuidado, compasión y acep-tación. Él nos asegura en medio de un abrumador sentimiento de desolación que Él está allí y nos fortalecerá. Sólo necesitamos llamar con fe y esperanza. Él nos invita a completar nuestra propia misión y estaremos dispuestos a decir al final sin remordimientos: "Padre en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu".
