As a Catholic school we respect and affirm the position of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as being the original inhabitants of this country. Prayer of the Aboriginal People Father of all, You gave us the Dreaming. You have spoken to us through our beliefs. You then made your love clear to us in the person of Jesus We thank You for your care. You own us. You are our hope. Make us strong as we face the problems of change. We ask You to help the people of Australia to listen to us and respect our culture. Make the knowledge of You grow strong in all people. So that You can be at home in us and we can make a home for everyone in our land. Amen. Prayer composed for the meeting between Pope John Paul II and the Aboriginal people This Monday’s prayer focus will mark the beginning of NAIDOC Week in the school. Please join us for prayer. As the term and first semester draw to a close next week, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the parents who have assisted in some way in the school, or with the students, this semester. While I recognise many people today are time poor, the partnership between home and school is critical to the success of the students and the school and my thanks for all of your contributions. Happy Holidays Next week marks the end of Semester One. Term Two has been an extremely busy term with many illnesses throughout the school. Hopefully, the two-week break will give students and staff an opportunity to rest and recharge. I am very grateful to everyone for their support this term and wish the staff, students and families a relaxing and refreshing break. Reports Reports will be sent home with the children on Thursday, Week 10. Please take the time to go through the report with your child and congratulate item for their effort this Semester. Alternatively, you may need to encourage them to look for areas where they can improve. Thank you to all the teachers for their time and dedication to making the student reports as comprehensive as possible. Uniforms Please take the time over the two week break to ensure that your children have the correct uniform for the commencement of Term Three. This includes correct school hat, jumpers, socks, shoes and hair accessories. Interschool Cross Country Good luck to our 48 students, who will be representing the school in the Interschool Cross Country, tomorrow at Mawson Park Hillarys. The course maps are available on the School Facebook page. Thank you to Mr Dalton and the numerous parent helpers for training the students for this event.

ABSENTEE PROCEDURES If your child is going to be absent, please notify the school office by one of the following ways:

SMS absentee line 0438 404 375 and include your child’s name and reason for absentee (do not phone this number)

Email [email protected] Via the absentee section on our website – www.sjpiicps.wa.edu.au Written letter Phone call (which must be followed up by written notification)

SICK CHILDREN A lot of children are being sent to school when they are not very well. There are a lot of ‘bugs & viruses’ going around and sending children to school before they are better just passes germs around. Guidelines for time away from school are advised by your doctor.

Please do not send them until they have recovered.

OSHCLUB NEWS Program Update Hello and welcome to Osh club St John Paul II, providing before and after school care for your children. Our focus is to have fun!!!! We follow the My Time our Place Framework. The Framework ensures that children in school age care have opportunities to engage in leisure and play-based experiences which contribute fully to their ongoing development. We are open from 7am till 9am daily and Tuesday through to Friday 2.30 till 6pm, Monday is the exception with the early school finish. We are very convenient and are located on the school premises with our own fully licensed room and play areas. Please feel free to come and have a look and meet our friendly educators, Coordinator Kelly Garratt and Assistant Suviensa Parvini. Below is a quick insight into the activities offered daily these are very flexible. We offer one art and craft activity and one sport activity; however children are free to engage in their own spontaneous play experiences. This week our focus is on raising money for Sids and Kids, Sids and Kids is a non for profit organisation that was created in 1977 to support families who had experienced the death of a young child from sudden infant death syndrome. We are holding a fundraising tea party event here at Osh Club this Friday 24th June, we are playing some party games and having a special afternoon tea, we are asking the parents to donate a gold coin so we can send to the organisation, any donation will make a help. Please help us make a difference.
