When, for any reason, we cannot participate in Mass, the Church invites us to unite with Christ through this prayer of Spiritual Communion. Praying this prayer is a beautiful way to
unite our hearts to Christ's when we cannot receive him physically in the Eucharist.
As we begin to welcome parishioners back to Masses, we appreciate your patience and cooperation. This is new to all of us, so we are learning as we go. All three parishes in our grouping have been working hard to comply with all of the guidelines laid out by the diocese in order for us to reopen our doors and keep parishioners safe at the same time. The best way for us to keep the number of attendees within the guidelines is to have those who wish to attend a Mass sign up for that Mass ahead of time. You can find the link to the Sign Up Genius page on our grouping website, stsjjmcatholic.org, or go directly to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050D4DA9AF29A7FF2-july
If you are unable to do this, or encounter problems, call your parish office and we can sign you up. Please sign up for weekend Masses by the Thursday prior if possible. We ask that you comply all of the posted guidelines. You will need to sanitize your hands when entering and exiting the church, you will need to wear a face mask, and you will need to follow the seating and traffic flow patterns as designated and directed by ushers and celebrants. Remember that at this point, there is no obligation to attend Mass, if you are over 65, have underlying health concerns, or cannot wear a mask, you are encouraged to stay at home for your safety. We continue to pray for the health and safety of everyone and that soon we can all be joined together to celebrate Mass. We will get through this! Welcome back!
PRAYER FOR RACIAL HEALING
God of justice, In your wisdom you create all people in your image, without exception.
Through your goodness, open our eyes to see
the dignity, beauty, and worth of every human being.
Open our minds to understand that all your
children are brothers and sisters in the same human family.
Open our hearts to repent of racist attitudes, behaviors, and speech which demean others.
Open our ears to hear the cries of those
wounded by racial discrimination, and their passionate appeals for change.
Strengthen our resolve to make amends for
past injustices and to right the wrongs of history.
And fill us with courage that we might seek to heal wounds, build bridges,
forgive and be forgiven, and establish peace
and equality for all in our communities. In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.
Prayer for
Confirmation Candidates
Holy Trinity,
guide and protect the candidates
as they prepare to celebrate the
Sacrament of Confirmation.
Help them to discern
God’s will in their life and
fill them with the
seven gifts of the Holy Spirit
wisdom,
knowledge,
right judgment,
courage,
understanding,
reverence,
wonder
and awe,
to empower them to serve God
as a true disciple through
Your grace and in Your love.
Amen.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Pope St. John Paul’s encyclical
“The Gospel of Life” (Evangelium Vitae).
Recently, Pope Francis confirmed that now, “the message of Evangelium vitae is more relevant than before”.
It is a matter of acting on a cultural and educational level in order to transmit an attitude of solidarity, caring and welcome to future generations, knowing that the culture of life is not the
exclusive patrimony of Christians. It belongs to all those who, working to build fraternal relationships, recognise the value of
each individual person, even when he or she is fragile and suffering.
St. John Paul's encyclical on the dignity of human life, he added, is "timelier than ever" not only in its defense of life but also in its call to pass on "an attitude of solidarity, care and
acceptance" to future generations. He then proclaimed, "Therefore, with St. John Paul II, I reaffirm with renewed conviction the appeal he addressed to everyone 25 years ago:
'Respect, defend, love and serve life, every life, every human life! Only on this path will you find justice, development, freedom, peace and happiness!'"
Below is an excerpt to reflect on this week.
From the “Gospel of Life” #25
The blood of Christ, while it reveals the grandeur of the Father's love,
shows how precious man is in God’s eyes and how priceless the value of
his life. … Precisely by contemplating the precious blood of Christ, the
sign of his self-giving love (cf. Jn 13:1), the believer learns to
recognize and appreciate the almost divine dignity of every human being
and can exclaim with ever renewed and grateful wonder: “How precious
must man be in the eyes of the Creator, if he gained so great a
Redeemer” (Exsultet of the Easter Vigil). -Pope St John Paul II

Opportunities to All Liberty & Justice for All
We celebrate America’s 244th Birthday this weekend. For many Americans this means spending time with
family, firing up the grill with hamburgers and hot dogs, lighting up the sky with fireworks, taking a dip in the
pool and displaying the American flag! For others, it means reflecting on our Nation’s history, remembering
time served in our military or thinking of loved ones who are currently serving. Recalling is important because
it recognizes our forefathers who fought tyranny for their freedom. Freedom is a precious value that should be
treasured and appreciated each day. Freedom empowers each of us and enables each of us to be the best
persons and citizens that we can be.
The Fourth of July is a celebration of everything that America stands for - freedom, families, service and
independence- what a great phrase. Freedom given to us, and kept for us, by our amazing military, past
and present. Doesn’t get any better than that!
So, let’s celebrate America's birthday– 244 years of history. Let’s salute the service men and women and their
sacrifices. Let us take time to reflect on what it means to be an American. It's a day to say, “God Bless our
Heroes and God Bless America, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.”
