When, for any reason, we cannot participate in Mass, the Church invites us to unite with Christ through this prayer of Spiritual Communion. Praying this prayer is a beautiful way to
unite our hearts to Christ's when we cannot receive him physically in the Eucharist.
As we begin to welcome parishioners back to Masses, we appreciate your patience and cooperation. This is new to all of us, so we are learning as we go. All three parishes in our grouping have been working hard to comply with all of the guidelines laid out by the diocese in order for us to reopen our doors and keep parishioners safe at the same time. The best way for us to keep the number of attendees within the guidelines is to have those who wish to attend a Mass sign up for that Mass ahead of time. You can find the link to the Sign Up Genius page on our grouping website, stsjjmcatholic.org, or go directly to www.signupgenius.com/go/8050d4da9af29a7ff2-mass. If you are unable to do this, or encounter problems, call your parish office and we can sign you up. Please sign up for weekend Masses by the Thursday prior. We ask that you comply all of the posted guidelines. You will need to sanitize your hands when entering and exiting the church, you will need to wear a face mask, and you will need to follow the seating and traffic flow patterns as designated and directed by ushers and celebrants. Remember that at this point, there is no obligation to attend Mass, if you are over 65, have underlying health concerns, or cannot wear a mask, you are encouraged to stay at home for your safety. We continue to pray for the health and safety of everyone and that soon we can all be joined together to celebrate Mass. We will get through this! Welcome back!
PRAYER FOR RACIAL HEALING From Bishop Zubik Evil such as we are witnessing these days can only be overcome by prayer. At this most critical time in the history of our country and our towns and cities, I ask that each one of you join with me as we focus on the absolute necessity of praying to God for guidance, courage and the vision that tears down walls and helps to build bridges. Might I suggest that beginning immediately we join together in the following prayer, from For The Love of One Another (1989), a special message from the Bishops' Committee on Black Catholics of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops on the Occasion of the Tenth Anniversary of the Pastoral Letter, Brothers and Sisters to Us, the U.S. Catholic bishops' Pastoral Letter on Racism (1979). 1 Wake Me Up, Lord Wake me up Lord so that the evil of racism finds no home within me. Keep watch over my heart Lord and remove from me any barriers to your grace. Fill my spirit Lord so that I may give services of justice and peace. Clear my mind Lord and use it for your glory. And finally, remind me Lord that you said, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God.” Amen.
Moving forward with the future merger of the three parishes the Advisory Council along with the Pastoral Council is working with the list of the submitted names for the new parish. We need to arrive at 15 suggestions to give to the Bishop for his approval. His approved list will be sent back to the grouping to identify 5 final recommendations to be sent back to him. This process is underway and will need to be completed during the summer months. As this naming process moves
forward as well as other elements of the merger process such as finances, personnel, and programs, all parishioners will continue to be updated in a timely manner. Let us continue in prayer for our journey and remain open to where and how the Spirit is leading us. God Bless.

Prayer for First Communicants
Lord Jesus,
Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time.
May this day be an initial step into a life- long love of the Eucharist.
Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to
You for comfort, guidance, and wisdom
as they grow in full discipleship.
Thank you for their innocence and goodness.
May they grow in Christian maturity and, by the power of the
Holy Spirit, become Christ’s witnesses in the world,
spreading and defending the faith.
Amen.
Prayer for Confirmation Candidates
Holy Trinity,
guide and protect the candidates
as they prepare to celebrate the
Sacrament of Confirmation.
Help them to discern
God’s will in their life and fill them
with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit
wisdom,
knowledge,
right judgment,
courage,
understanding,
reverence,
wonder
and awe,
to empower them to serve God
as a true disciple through
Your grace and in Your love.
Amen.

June 15 at 6 PM
June 16 at 10 AM As of right now, there have been no official announcements or directives from the Diocese about when our parishes will hold Confirmation. We are hopeful that we will have a date soon! In the meantime, continue to pray for all of our candidates as they anxiously await receiving this Sacrament and outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
HOPE AND HEALING ARE POSSIBLE!!! Our families and friends need our prayers
during this time of uncertainty, fear, anxiety and unemployment. Those
struggling with addiction or substance abuse are extremely vulnerable!

Census Update You can expect a call over the next several weeks. We are in the pro-cess of updating cell numbers, addresses, registering adult children, checking on sacraments, adding emails. Yes, it’s quite a process. You will either get a phone call which will take just a few minutes of your time or you will receive an update form in the mail which should take just a couple minutes to complete. This will help us get a realistic look at our database. Our thanks to those who have already updated their info. We thank you for being so responsive to this request.
Many, Many Thanks “My heartfelt thanks for all the kind expressions of sympathy that have been extended to me and my family surrounding the recent passing of my son, Greg. The phone calls, cards, Masses and more have touched us beyond words. May God bless you all for your kindness and outreach. Our parish family is just amazing. Thank you for everything.” -Rosalyn Hyek

2020
We want to honor our graduating high school seniors even though we are in the most unordinary of times, to say the least. We are tossing around a Mass for the graduates with a grab and munch “social distancing” social following the Mass. It’s all in the initial works and still up in the air. We need your help to get started.
Could we ask that if you have a graduating senior, that you notify your Parish Office with your graduate’s name and high school. Thanks, and we will keep you posted!

A Mom’s Thoughts About Graduation . . . You know, the grocery store can be a great place to socialize, share your joys and concerns with
friends, solve problems and hear the latest – all over the fruit and vegetable displays. I found myself in
the path of moms talking about their kids and graduation. And how bizarre the second semester has
been. Nothing relates to “normal” - walk on graduations, proms in July, social distancing. Yes, bizarre!
Preparations for college will begin nonetheless. The trips to Target, TJ Maxx and WalMart to purchase
everything on the “what you need for college” list will be numerous. Being a veteran mom with lots of
experience I had the moms’ attention. They had many questions and I had answers, but, not quite the
ones that they were looking for. I told them there’s no shortcut to that adjustment from high school to
college, from a close family unit to that separation. For 18 years your mind has known that these days
would come, but somehow your heart has refused to believe it. While you are happy for your kids’
achievements and pursuit of a higher education, you are feeling confused and maybe even wishing that the calendar
month would be January instead of June and that Covid 19 never happened. Your kids’ leaving is not a death. And it’s
not a tragedy. But I told them that I wouldn’t call it a “nothing” either.
We became drawn into conversation. I shared a post that I recently read on Facebook from a mom going through
the transition. “I wasn’t wrong about their leaving, she said. My husband kept telling me that I was. That it wasn’t the
end of the world when our first one left for college. But it was the end of- “Can you pick me up, Mom?” “What’s for
dinner?” “What do you think?” “I need your help, Mom.” I was the sun and they were the planets. And there was life
on those planets, whirling, non-stop plans and parties and friends coming and going, and ideas and dreams and their
cell phone ringing and doors slamming. And I got to beam down on them. To watch. To glow. And then they were
gone, one after the other. “They’ll be back,” my husband said. And he was right. They came back. But he was wrong,
too, because they came back only for intervals, not for always, not planets anymore, making their predictable orbits,
but unpredictable, like shooting stars.”
“Always” is what you are going to miss I told the moms. Always knowing where they are- at school, at play practice,
at a ballgame. Always seeing the sigh, the smile, the laugh, the shrug when the door opens. Always, knowing his
friends, her favorite show. What he had for breakfast. What she wore to school. What he thinks. How she feels. It will
all be different. No more- “Can you give me a ride to the mall?” “`Mom, make him stop!” I rather enjoyed playing
chauffeur and referee. I admit that I miss them still, all these years later. I miss the children that they were- at the
dinner table, beside me on the couch, talking on the phone, sleeping in their rooms, safe- home- mine- yes, mine. A
chapter ends. Pure and simple, the first chapter in your family book is complete. Sure, another chapter will begin. You
will still be the sun, but the planets will travel in a different direction. The kids will be adults and on their own and we
will be on the periphery. It’s a major change. You couldn’t forget for even a minute your children, your love for them
and your fear for them, too. And would that they occupied only a single room in your head. But they occupy every
room in your head and in your heart. Saying goodbye to your children and their childhood is much harder than all the
pithy sayings make it seem. Because that’s what going to college is. It’s a goodbye of sorts.
You will find that the drive home without them creates that big old lump in your throat. And the first few days re-
quire a lot of Kleenex. But then it gets better. The kids call, come home, bring their friends, fill the house with their en-
ergy again. They mature and you bathe in their successes. They grow, still need you but in different ways. Oh, yes, life
goes on to the next chapter. No matter how many years pass or how many other wonderful things are part of your
family book, the first chapter will always be special. And as you grow older, you will read it again and again in your
mind and remember that time of separation- No, it’s not a death. And no, it’s not a tragedy. But I just wouldn’t call it a
“nothing” either.
