"I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.
These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and
there will be one flock, one shepherd. This is why the
Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to
take it up again." - Jn 10:16-17

PALLIATIVE CARE
AND ADVANCE CARE PLANNING
Palliative care is often misunderstood. It is sometimes
thought to be exclusively for people who are receiving
hospice care at the end of their lives, but palliative care is a
comprehensive approach to care for those with serious
illness from the moment of their diagnosis. It is a way for
people to live better with serious illness that is entirely
consistent with Catholic teaching, continuing the holistic
healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Come hear a presentation
on “Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning” THIS
Monday, April 23, at 7PM outside the lower church. The
Divine Mercy Chaplet will be said beforehand beginning at
6:30PM in the lower church. Presented by the Archdiocese
of Boston’s Initiative for Palliative Care and Advance Care
Planning.

CROSS ROADS
By Deacon Tony
Acts 4: 8-12; Psalm 118: 1, 8-9, 21-23,26-29;
John 3: 1-2; John 10: 11-18
“I am the Good Shepherd, and I know mine and
mine know me>and I will lay down my life for the sheep>
and there will be one flock, one shepherd.” These words in
John’s Gospel are as important and momentous as any of
the things that Jesus said. God’s love for us is so great that
he gave us the perfect savior. In Acts, “Peter, filled with the
Spirit” proclaims that Jesus, the stone which the builders
rejected, has become the cornerstone; and only through
Him is there salvation. How do we accept this great gift of
salvation? If Jesus saw us now would he recognize us as
part of his flock? Would we recognize him as our shep-
herd? Would we know his voice?
To recognize our Good Shepherd, to act according-
ly, to proclaim him as the Savior as Peter did, to make full
use of the gift of salvation, we too must allow ourselves to
be “filled” with the Spirit. Sometimes, we (and I certainly
include myself) inhibit our being filled with the Spirit. Some-
times we fill parts of our souls with things that don’t allow
the Spirit to fill our souls. The good news is the mercy and
kindness of God endure forever. When we stumble, we
have been given the power and the tools (the Sacrament of
Penance and the Eucharist among them) to repent, reform,
start again, and make more room for the Spirit. When we
do this, we become more recognizable as part of the flock,
as children of God. We will recognize Jesus in all aspects
of our lives. We will make him the cornerstone of our lives
on this earth, until someday when he is fully revealed to us,
“>we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
