FOURTH WEEK OF ADVENT: CHRISTMAS AT OUR DOORSTEP
This final week of Advent is just a day or two: so, I thought it would be good to share Pope Francis’s reflection that can help us enter into the true spirit of Christmas:
Pope Francis: Christmas, the surprises that God likes
Pope Francis’ catechesis on Christmas was focused on the idea of “surprises.” While the world insists on exchanging presents, the Holy Father asked, “what gifts and surprises would God want?”
Looking back at the first Christmas, the Pope said it was “full of surprises,” for Mary, for Joseph. From the Angel’s announcement of Mary’s pregnancy, to the Flight into Egypt, that first Christmas “brought unexpected changes” to their lives.
“But it was in the middle of the night of Christmas,” Pope Francis said, “that the biggest surprise of all arrived: The Most High is a little baby.” Christmas, he said, means celebrating the “unprecedented things of God,” or rather, “the unprecedented God.”
The Pope said that “doing Christmas” means “welcoming on earth the surprises of heaven.” It means helping the needy, as Jesus came down to help us in our neediness; trusting in God, as Mary did, even if we don’t understand his plans; rising up, as Joseph did, to accomplish God’s will, even if it means changing our own plans.
If, on the other hand, we prefer the usual, mundane celebrations, we risk doing Christmas wrong. “If Christmas remains only a beautiful traditional feast,” where the focus is on ourselves rather than Jesus, “it will be a lost opportunity,” the Pope said. “Please, don’t make Christmas worldly!”
And so, he explained, it will really be Christmas “if, like Joseph, we make room for silence; if, like Mary, we say ‘Here I am’ to God; if, like Jesus, we are close to those who are alone; if, like the shepherds, we go out of our enclosures to be with Jesus.”
“Dear brothers and sisters,” Pope Francis said in conclusion, “have a good Christmas, rich in the surprises of Jesus!”
Bishop Cabezas, the Staff and I wish you a very Merry Christmas! ____________________________________________________________

Have A Blessed Week!
Advent is not getting on the Line for Christmas
Sometimes, having to wait is usually quite heavy. Who has not been caught in traffic jam on the highway, long lines in the supermarket or in the bakery ... What bothers is not so much standing without doing anything, (and less today
with cellphones, which allow us to do useful things in any situation) but then it does not give us time to continue with the plans we had set.
On other occasions, waiting irritates. I mean when we want something that just does not arrive. It can be the game that we have bought online, the grade from the exam we made three months ago or the coffee we have ordered for breakfast. The difference with the previous case is that we have something more of interest in what we expect, it is
not a mere procedure to do something else ...
From here, if we go a step further, the fact of waiting takes on a new meaning. What we hope for means so much for us, that we do all that it takes to wait for it. This happens to us, for example, when our significant other arrives from a trip, if it´s our birthday or that of a friend, etc., approaches. In these cases, it is different, we are the ones who decide to dedicate time to plan and organize with the hope of making that homecoming or celebration more special, make it
ours, more for our friends. To get the most out of what excites us.
This is what the Church, all Christians, do with Christmas: place in our hearts, a month before, this great mystery: God made man, made a child, for us ... In Advent we have time to think, meditate, pray ... so that we can become
infused with the profound joy of this great act of mercy hidden in the poverty and humility of a manger.
At this time, the fundamental thing is prayer, and a prayer that anyone can do. Because before Jesus was born there were no Christians, so we can all take advantage and ask Him to enter our hearts, to give us that faith that we see we lack, that we know Him better ... Come Lord Jesus!

Saint Vincent de Paul quote on Advent:
“The saints say that poverty is the knot of religions. We are not religious; it has been convenient that we were
not, and we are not worthy to be, even if we live in community; but it can be said that poverty is the knot of
the communities, and especially of ours, that needs it more than the others; it is that knot that separates her from all things on earth and binds her to her God. O
Savior grant us this virtue, which binds us inseparably to your service! Let us not seek or pretend anything
other than you alone and your glory! Blessed be God!”
a ti solo y tu gloria! ¡Bendito sea Dios!”
