Dear brothers and sisters,

Peace!

It is said that greed is like a monster that feeds both on the greedy person and

the victims of his/her greed. Once greed takes control of our lives we lose

interest in the more important and life-giving values.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church #2536 states, “The tenth command-

ment forbids greed and the desire to amass earthly goods without limit. It

forbids avarice arising from a passion for riches and their attendant power.

It also forbids the desire to commit injustice by harming our neighbor in his

temporal goods.”

As Jesus warns, the greedy has no place in his kingdom. Such a person is a

fool who thinks that by amassing riches, he/she can grow rich in the sight of

God. Trust in God goodness is the antidote for greed.

This August 2nd is the feast of St. Peter Julian Eymard, the Apostle of the

Eucharist. He exemplified for us a life that is offered to God and to human-

kind. He was so captivated by God’s love in the gift of Jesus in the Eucha-

rist. This is his charism that he has gifted the Universal Church. Let us pray

that like him, we may give of ourselves for the good of others. As he would

love to say, “I must be to Jesus, as Jesus is to the Father.” Jesus, God’s be-

loved Son, is our offering pleasing to him?

Let us also welcome all students of St. Joseph School. We hope and pray

that they will grow in knowledge, wisdom, grace and love for Jesus Christ.

God bless you.

In Jesus, our fullness of Life,

Fr. Samuel E. Loterte, SSS

Calling all Cardinal Fans! Come and support the St. Joseph School Elementary Athletics Program at our Annual Basketball Tournament on August 10 & 11 at the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium. This is one of the primary events to fundraise for the Lil' Cardinals in paying for tournaments & league fees, for uni-

forms and for equipment. We have an elementary basketball team and an interme-diate basketball team who participates in tournaments and leagues year round. We also enter a mixed aged team in the Parks and Recreation Spring Track and Field events each year.

We are humbly asking for any type of donations (cases of water or soda, hotdogs and/or buns, items for spam musubi, etc) for our concessions as well as volunteer man-power to assist at the concession booth. All proceeds are for the support of this program. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. Go Cardinals!

Couples for Christ Hilo, Hawaii

“Christian Life Program 2013”

Visiting Hawaii in itself is a paradise

experience, but what made it more

gratifying was welcoming 2 couples

and 3 Handmaids of the Lord who

graduated from the recently concluded

Christian Life Program(CLP) held at Hilo in the Big Island of Hawaii last June 29-June 30, 2013. Hilo residents, Bro. Linden and

Sis. Chrislyn Villena, along with the rest of the Hilo Singles for Christ served in the said CLP. Help was extended from outside the

Big Island by area leaders of Hawaii, Bro. Rico and Sis. Vinya Manianglung from Oahu, as well as Bro. Oswald from SFC Oahu,

Bro. Jack and Sis. Nelia Macalalad from Houston, Texas, and Bro. Eric and Sis. Pat Villanueva, from Southern California. Fr. Sam

from St. Joseph Parish generously opened his parish to welcome CFC to conduct the CLP in the parish Social Hall and provided

housing for the non-residents who served in the said CLP. Bro. Henry and Sis. Doris Grace, one of the couples who graduated are

looking into the possibility of bringing the CLP program to their place, Kona, which is 2 hours away from Hilo and eventually form

a household group in that area. One of the HOLD graduates, Sis. Estine Viernnes, is excited to share this program to her church

group friends at St. Joseph Parish and hopes that another CLP will be conducted again sometime in October with all her friends in

attendance. God is truly amazing for His powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit both upon the participants as well as the service

team of the recently concluded CLP. -Submitted by: Pat Villanueva (CFC, Southern California)
