55Fun Days: Faith, Family and Community—What a great success we

enjoyed last weekend! Congratulations to all who were involved from

the Steering Commi"ee to the commi"ee heads, the parish staff and

the hundreds of volunteers from the most youthful to senior of our

parish. Fun Days would not have been successful without the

Providence of God, the guidance of faith and the great stewardship of

time, talent and treasure shown by so many. Congratulations and a heartfelt thank you to

all! Thank you for your commitment to and love for St. Joseph Church!

Father’s Day—I take inspiration for these remarks from the sculpture of the Holy Family

that was recently installed in our church. I like the depiction of St. Joseph because it shows

him to be a family man, a father and husband who cares for his wife and the child-Jesus.

The sculpture shows Joseph with his cloak around Jesus and Mary as one who is their

protector. The illuminated lamp he has in his hand indicates that he is a guide by showing

his family the way both spiritually and in the world. That’s what a husband is in a

marriage and as a father—one who acts as a protector and a guide. He shields his family

from the harm the world can do and guides them in the faith by his own fidelity to God and

spiritual practice. This Father’s Day as we offer recognition to our Dads and pray for those

who have predeceased us, we give thanks for their faith, guidance and protection.
