Reintegration for St. Joseph Catholic Church (SJC)
What to Know
Those Who Are Vulnerable · If you or those for whom you care are “vulnerable” to infection or the serious effects of coronavirus, please avoid gather-ings of the general public. Those who are vulnerable:
are over the age of 65, have existing heart or lung conditions, have diabetes, and/or are otherwise immuno-compromised.
Those Who Feel Sick · If you feel sick in any way, are coughing, or are sneezing frequently, please avoid public gatherings, including liturgical celebra-tions. Livestreamed Masses · SJC will continue to livestream Masses on the weekdays (M-F at 8:00 am; Saturday at 10:00 am; and Weekend Vigil Mass at 5:00 pm). If you are vulnerable, sick, or con-cerned with your safety or the safety of those whom you regularly encounter, please continue to unite prayerfully to the Mass via livestream. In-Person Participation · Please be char itable, respectful and understanding with the Friars, parish staff, and liturgical ministers. What to Expect Person-Per-Gathering Limits · The Diocese re-quires every parish to follow person-per gathering limits set by public health authorities. Our in-person participation is 250. If the number of participants exceeds the limit, the Church will be locked for safety. Please be respectful to the porters and ushers who may have to share this information with you. Above all, exercise charity! Social Distancing · SJC requires social distancing with due respect for the reverent enactment of the sacred rites. Kindly follow the directions of minis-ters, as well as posted signs and markings.
All the faithful of the Diocese of Arlington are dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation until further notice.
Disinfection & Ventilation · SJC continues to en-sure disinfection and ventilation before and after each liturgy. The church will be closed after each Mass. Holy Water & Hymnals · SJC has removed holy water from all fonts and hymnals/missalettes from pews. Porters · For each liturgy, we will have at least one “porter” — a minister who keeps watch at the doors. Porters will ensure that capacity limitations and related safety practices are observed. Please be patient, understanding, and respectful in following the directions of all ministers. Preparing Making Plans · Dur ing this time and due to ca-pacity limits, please do not plan to attend iturgies at any parish at which you are not registered. Face Coverings: You are to wear a cloth face covering or disposable face mask. Please bring your own. The Friars will wear their masks for the en-trance, communion and recessional from Mass. They will not wear them at the altar due to the space for the celebration of the Mass. Hand Hygiene: You are expected to disinfect your hands when entering the church and encour-aged to do so again immediately before receiving Communion. Please bring your own hand sanitizer, which should contain at least 60% alcohol. Entrance into the Church: Par ishioners will be invited to enter into the Church through the front doors on the left side of the Church. Celebrating Processions · The Pr iests and Deacon will pro-cess in from and exit to the sacristy. Presentation of the Gifts · The presentation of the gifts by members of the assembly will be omit-ted. Collection · A collection will take place as you exit the Church. Baskets will be placed in the vesti-bule for your offertory envelope or donation. If available, please consider supporting your parish

COLLECTION (Cont’d…) through online giving – we invite you to use Faith Direct. You may also drop your donation off at the parish office during the week or use the mail. Lord’s Prayer · The Diocese and SJC prohibits holding hands during the Lord’s Prayer. Sign of Peace · The Diocese requires that the in-vitation “Let us offer each other the sign of peace” and the exchange of peace that follows be omitted. There will be no sign of peace. Communion: Only pr iests, deacons, and institut-ed acolytes distribute Communion. All present who are in a state of grace may receive Communion. Those who have health concerns are not obliged. Please follow the procedures for the distribution of Communion. Please maintain social distancing in the Communion Procession. You are encouraged to disinfect your hands immedi-ately before receiving Communion. Please prayer-fully consider temporarily receiving reverently in the hand.* It is not permitted to receive Communion in the hand while wearing gloves. If you are wearing gloves, please remove your gloves for the reception of Communion. Ministers are encouraged to disinfect their hands immediately after each and every communicant who receives on the tongue, even if no physical contact has occurred. Ministers are also encouraged to disinfect their hands immediately if accidental contact is made with a communicant’s hand. Mass schedule: Saturday Vigil Mass at 5:00 pm (also livestreamed) Sunday Masses: 8:00 am; 11:00 am; 3:00 pm (Spanish); and 5:00 pm Daily Mass: Monday – Friday at 8:00 am (also livestreamed) Saturday Mass at 10:00 am – live stream only * Information available in U.S. CDC, Interim Guidance for Leaders of Faith Communities (23 Mar 2020) & World Health Organization, Guidance for Faith Communities (7 Apr 2020).

Father Alberto, we assure you of our prayers as you begin your new ministry with the faith community at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Bendiciones de Dios!

MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK
The Parish staff wishes to thank the following parish min-istries: We thank our parishioners for their gift of faith, embrace of the Gospel of Joy, “works of mercy,” and support of the par-ish. As we celebrate the Easter Season, know that you are re-membered in our thoughts and prayers. We thank our parishioners who joined us for the weekday and weekend Masses via live stream. Be assured of our prayers for you and your family! We thank our parishioners for their support of the Sunday of-fertory via the use of Church envelopes and Faith Direct. Know that we are grateful for your prayers and support. We thank the pastoral staff, Parish Advisory Council, the Fri-ars, and the ushers who met with us as we developed the SJC Reintegration Plan for the potential opening of public Masses on May 30th. We thank our parishioners who have offered their time and talents to assist our parishioners and our neighbors in need; local organizations – LINK and Embry Rucker Center; St. Lucy Project; Respect Life ministries; etc… Pope Francis shared: “let us be lights of hope! Let us maintain a positive outlook on reality.” We offer our congratulations and prayers to Father Alberto, TOR, on the occasion of his Anniversary of Pr iestly Ordi-nation. Father Alberto was ordained on June 7, 1986. Many blessings Father Alberto! We thank the SJC and SJS staff for their faithfulness and commitment to their ministry dur ing these challenging months. “Remember the past with gratitude. Live the present with enthusiasm. Look forward to the future with confi-dence.” – St. John Paul II We thank our parishioners and visitors to the SJC/SJS proper-ty for their understanding that the Church parking lot and property is closed with the exception of visits to the Church and parish office. We know that some individuals have been upset with us, however, this security and safety issue is im-portant to us for many reasons. Here are a few reasons:
• For us as a faith community to be respectful to the direc-tives of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Fairfax County, and Town of Herndon. Bishop Burbidge has asked us to be respectful of the directives of our governmental lead-ers;
• For the safety and security of our property and the proper-ty of our neighbors;
SLOW CHURCH ZONE CONT’D…
• For safety of individuals on the property. With most parks and recreational spaces closed during the days of the pan-demic, the Church property and parking lot was becoming the new “alternative park” for many. The property was becoming the bike riding park for some; the picnic gather-ing space for some, the unleashed dog park for some; and the new student driving course for many.
• For the fact that the Church parking lot has moving vehi-cles on the property, we are not suited to be a park or rec-reational gathering space for the public.
We thank you for your respect of our property and our neigh-borhood.

ST. LUCY ‘NO CONTACT
FOOD COLLECTION’
St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot
Friday, June 5, 2020 – 10:00 am – 2:00 pm A special St. Lucy Food Collection will take place in the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot on FRIDAY JUNE 5 between the hours of 10 AM - 2 PM. This will be a “no contact” collection. If you would like to participate in this donation, please follow the steps below:
• Place your food donations in the trunk or hatchback of your vehicle.
• Enter the church parking lot through the Peachtree
Street entrance.
• The St. Lucy Truck will be positioned near the school gymnasium.
Volunteers will direct traffic towards the truck. Once near the truck, volunteers will take your food donation from your vehicle. No need to get out of your car. No reusable bags. Plastic or paper is fine. Volunteers will direct you to the exit at Franciscan Way. St. Joseph’s parishioners have always been staunch supporters of the St. Lucy Project. We thank you in advance for your help and support of this most gracious act of mercy.
You are invited to journey with us this summer as we dive into the Old Testament with our Beholding His Glory Bible Study. We’ll be going through this study LIVE weekly on Instagram starting Thursday, June 11th at 8 p.m. ET/5 pm PT. (follow Walking With Purpose on Instagram @walkingwithpurpose_official!) Order your book today so that we can study together as a com-munity. Shop here at https://shop.walkingwithpurpose.com/collections/study-guides/products/beholding-his-glory-study guide. The month of June only WWP offering 20% discount. As we go through this time of uncertainty, whether we will be meeting again in person or using Zoom to carry out our Bible Study, we feel that the study of the Old Testament could give you an opportunity to discover the format for the Walking With Purpose Bible Study . If after completing this study and you feel that you would like to participate in our parish pro-gram in the Fall, please contact Susie Geurin at 703-338-7077 or [email protected] or visit https://tinyurl.com/WWP-SJC.
