A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
Today is Mother’s Day. So, I hope all of our mothers and grandmothers will be enjoying their special day. Today is a good day to pray for our mothers. For our mothers who are still living, let us pray that God will continue to bless them. For our mothers who have died, let us pray that they are enjoying eternal happiness in heaven.
During this time of year, many students are graduating from their schools. On Wednesday, May 16th, St. Dominic High School will hold its graduation ceremony in our church. About thirty of those graduates are from our parish. On Thursday, May 24th, the eighth grade students from St. Joseph School will be graduating. Our eight grade PSR students will also be graduating from their schools in the near future. So, to all of our graduates on the elementary, secondary and college levels, I congratulate you. Let’s pray for all our graduates that they will recognize and use their talents and gifts to build up the Kingdom of God here on earth.

PRAY FOR PRIESTS
PLEASE PRAY WITH US IN THE ADORATION CHAPEL
Every Monday morning 8:30-9:30 & Tuesday evening 7:00-8:00 as we Pray for the Sanctification of Priests
& Holy Vocations to the Holy Priesthood & Consecrated Religious Life. Questions, call: Sharon

Eucharistic Ministers How are you being called to serve? Is your heart willing, but your schedule just too busy? Eucharistic Ministers serve with little time commitments out-
side of weekly Mass. We commissioned over 20 ministers in 2017, yet our rosters at the end of the year were smaller than at the beginning of the year. Ministers leave for many reasons: a move, growing families, retirement, or going home to our Lord. Regardless, thinning ros-ters mean that we must continually refresh our
ranks. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend Eu-charistic Minister training Monday, May 21, at 7:00
pm in the St. Joseph room.
Parishioners interested in becoming Eucharistic Minister for our liturgies, or for taking Communion
to the homebound should attend.
For more information, please contact David Frie-drichs [email protected]
(314) 703-5541.
 Serve the Lord with gladness!
ADORATION OF OUR LORD
Give Our Blessed Mother a great Mother’s Day present, spend time with her Divine Son. This is the gift she will love, and keep close to her Immaculate Heart. Adoration begins Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. and continues through Saturday at 7:45 a.m. There is always a need for faithful committed adorers, will you be one? Various hours are in need of an additional committed adorers, can you help?
"Eucharistic adoration is the greatest of actions. To adore is to share the life of Mary on earth when she adored the
Word Incarnate in her virginal womb, when she adored Him in the Crib, on Calvary, in the divine Eucharist,”

“When one comes in touch with money, one loses con-tact with GodA.One day there springs up the desire for money and for all that money can provide-the superflu-ous, luxury in eating, luxury in dressing, trifles. Needs increase because one thing calls for another. The result is uncomfortable dissatisfaction”. – St. Theresa of Cal-cutta

ST. JOSEPH PARISH TITHING PROGRAM ENTERS ITS SEVENTH YEAR
Since 2012, the Tithing Outreach Program has awarded over $900,000 in grants to many local charities. We will once again make grants to worthy local charitable organizations in 2018. We value your input. All parishioners are invited to nominate one or more charities you think deserve consideration. National organizations are not eligible.
Due to the number of requests, we may not be able to accommodate all requests. The charity can be religious or secular, but the charity’s philosophy must be consistent with Catholic teaching. The money awarded must be used for services for the charity’s beneficiaries. The organization must also be a 501©(3) charity & not a for-profit company.
Our application form can be found at stjoecot.org/about/finance-council/. All organizations requesting funds must have a St. Joseph-Cottleville parishioner supporting them.

A LIFESAVING
CHECKLIST
Thousands have died in vehicle crashes because drivers are distracted by cell phone conversations, emails, text messages and social media. Do not become a statistic.
Here are some tips to keep your eyes on the road, your hands on the wheel and your mind on the drive
•• First and foremost, turn off your cell phone. Put it in the glove compartment, in your purse or in your trunk. There is no safe way to make a call while driving – not even hands-free.
•• Send and read text messages and emails before you start driving.
•• If you’re going on a longer drive, schedule breaks to stop, park safely, and respond to messages.
•• Using voice features in your car’s infotain-ment system is also distracting. Take care of communications before you start driving.
•• Know where you’re going before you put the car in “drive.” Put your destination into your GPS so you do not need to touch it while the car is moving.
•• Social media can wait. No update, tweet or video is worth a life.
•• Park in a safe area if you must take a call, return a text or check email.
•• Do not call or text friends or family if you know they are driving.
Distracted driving is an epidemic.
Be part of the solution, Just Drive.

4 Ways to Thrive as Catholic Parents
by Jim Otremba, MDiv, MS,- “Peanut Butter & Grace”
3. Pray with Scripture Daily
This is our daily bread, and we need to immerse ourselves in the holy, powerful Word of God daily. If you don’t know where to start, today’s technology makes it rather easy. In fact, I read the Scriptures more on my smartphone than I do on paper (I love the ease of it — and for eyes that are almost 50 years old it is really easy to make the font larger without the bifocals) It is easy to download Relevant Radio App for free and click on daily readings.
No matter the format, I know that when we shut the TV off and open up the Word of God, Abba loves it! Abba desires to share his life-giving Word with us daily in the Eucharist, & in the Word of God. Some of us cannot make it to Mass during the weekday because of busy schedules. But, all of us can shut off our TV’s after the kids are in bed, open up the Word & be refreshed. Once again, if you are doing this beautiful ritual, our calling is to humbly pray for more Catholic parents to devote time to praying with Scripture daily. It will transform our nation! 3. Start Tithing
On the bell curve, Catholics are weak in this area. The Lord has given us everything and we are called to be stewards of our time, talents and treasure. If you have never tithed in the past, think about starting it this year. Give 5 % to your local parish, & the other 5% to a charity that’s doing God’s work.
What people notice all the time when they start tithing is how good it is, and how much God honors and blesses it. If you are thinking that you can’t afford it, my invitation is to start somewhere. Maybe you start at 5%: give 2.5%to your parish & 2.5 % to another good charity. God will bless our efforts and before you know it, you will be at 10%..
Once again, if you are a tithing Catholic — praise the Lord! Our calling is pray for those who are not, and never in judg-mental way. Only a humble way that the Holy Spirit can move our hearts to give more as a Church. We are sorely lacking in this area, and we need much prayer and fasting to overcome this myopic vision that we sometimes have.
