The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary ….” Luke 1:30
-
Dear People of the Incarnation of Christ,
Because the office will be closed this week, this bulletin is for Fourth Sunday of Advent, Christmas, and Holy Family. Quite a bit happens over those three weeks. This week we hear Mary’s fiat, her yes to God’s
plan, God’s plan for our salvation. All of creations, even the angels, held their breath, waiting for Mary’s “yes”. We reach back to the beginning, with Genesis, chapter 3. God tells Satan that he is going to put enmity between him (Satan) and the woman, and between him and the wom-an’s offspring. This woman is obviously Mary, the only hu-man person, conceived without sin, thus completely sepa-rated from Satan. Right after the Fall, in Genesis chapter 3, God is already planning our salvation, a plan in which Mary plays a vital role. So much so, that some theologians have called Mary the co-redemptrix. Not that Mary is equal to Jesus in our salvation, but that she freely, in her free will, choose to play a key role in our redemption from the effects of our sin.
And then on Friday we will celebrate Jesus coming to earth. Have you ever asked why Jesus didn’t just come to earth as an adult, die on the Cross, rise again, and return to heaven? Why, because Jesus wanted, needed, to enter fully into the human experience. He also wanted to estab-lish a Church that would carry forth His mission until the end of time. So Jesus comes to us as a helpless baby. The Creator of the universe comes as a meek and humble baby.
In the Gospel on Sunday, December 27, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. We see the Holy Family follow the Mosaic law and have Jesus presented to God the Fa-ther at the Temple in Jerusalem. We see in Joseph and Mary a great obedience to God the Father’s will, no matter what personal hardship it adds to their lives. After Jesus goes through the purification rite, the Holy Family goes home, back to Nazareth. Saint Luke just records, “The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.” Think how much is contained in that one sentence. That one sentence contains almost ten times the amount time the rest of the Gospel covers. So much of our lives are lived in silence. So much of what we do day in and day out no one will ever know about. It is in the small things, in the silence that heros are formed. St. Maximillian Kolbe was the great priest who died in the Nazi concentration camp when he offered to take someone else’s place in the punishment of starving literally to the death. If you read about his life, you quickly realize that he didn’t just do a heroic, selfless thing one day. No, he had spent his entire life sacrificing and giving up of himself for the good of others. His entire life up to that point, a life spent in relative silence, prepared him to do something he-roically selfless that day in the concentration camp. Do not under estimate the power of doing the right thing, the holy thing in the small everyday decisions of our lives.
I pray you have a blessed two weeks celebrating the com-ing of our salvation, the coming of God Himself, the Second Person of the Trinity.
God bless and a Merry Christmas, Father Vogel

Belize
A new fundraising campaign is starting this Christmas season
called “Bathrooms in Belize”. Since travel is not advised to
the country of Belize, the Belize Mission group has found a
way to continue the impact of the 5 years of Tri-Parish mission
work. Bathrooms in Belize looks to install bathrooms at hous-
es previously built by the Mission group and give those people
the most basic sanitary needs of a toilet, sink, and show-
er. The bathrooms will be constructed by unemployed locals
who have found themselves unable to find daywork with the
Coronvirus restrictions closing down most tourism and con-
struction activities. All projects and funds will be routed
through Divine Mercy Church of Belize City. Please consider
helping with those in need this holiday season. Donations can
be placed in the offering basket at church, mailed to or
dropped off at the office. Clearly mark the envelope “Belize”.
Thank you to St. Joseph church family car-
olers for the songs & beautiful Poinsettia.
I really appreciated being remembered.
