MESSAGE FROM THE SAFEGUARDING OFFICE I don’t have to tell you that we are undergoing a national

crisis at the moment, which as well as bringing all the prob-

lems of the current pandemic , also creates increased safe-

guarding risk in many areas. These include domestic abuse ,

mental health issues the vulnerable being scammed to men-

tion but a few. If you have any safeguarding concerns either

personally or for any other person then do not hesitate to

contact the Safeguarding Office who remain open and availa-

ble to assist. To contact us either email me direct

on [email protected] or ring me on 01364 645431

which will be transferred to my mobile. Robert Brown Safe-

guarding Coordinator Diocese of Plymouth.

PARISH 50/50 CLUB We will be catching up on our monthly draws as soon as we are given the instruction to recommence our Masses. At the present time we have April and May to catch up on. For those members who paid for 6 months, I will be contacting you for your next pay-ment which can either be made by bank transfer (I can for-ward our bank details), cheques can be posted to the Presby-tery or cash can be put through the presbytery door if you are passing. Please don’t make a special trip and please don’t send cash via Royal Mail. It’s really important to mark your payment as 50/50 club membership on the envelope, back of the cheque or on the bank transfer. We are very much look-ing forward to our next draw when there will be lots and lots of winners!!!!

PARISH FINANCES As the parish is currently closed we have not been able to count any cash or bank any cheques. Therefore please don’t be worried if your cheque payment hasn't been taken from your account.

LAUDATO SI’ WEEK 5TH ANNIVERSARY – 16-24 MAY 2020 This year is the 5th Anniversary of Laudato Si’. Laudato Si’ tells us that “everything is connected” and tragically, the current health catastrophe has much in common with the ecological catastro-phe. Both are global emergencies that will affect many people, both directly and indirectly. Despite the current situation, there are still lots of ways we can take action to mark this anniversary, sharing the common prayer and celebrating what we have achieved in our homes, schools and parishes. CAFOD and Caritas Plymouth have produced a summary of resources for any-one interested in exploring further the message of Laudato Si’. A note will be posted on the Plymouth Diocese website next week. During the week itself we will be sharing reflections and examples of how our Diocese is taking action via our Diocesan Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/plymouthdiocese/ Many thanks, and with every blessing Fr John (Chair of Caritas Plymouth Committee) Canon John Deeny MASS OF THE DAY In talking with parishioners many have shared that Lockdown this Eastertide has been a very spiritual experience. While unable to attend Mass in person at St Joseph’s or St Gregory’s, they have turned to new sources of accessing Mass and prayer using modern means of communication.

The Live Mass on a Sunday on Facebook from St Joseph’s attracts a regular and faithful congregation of between 50 and one hun-dred people, who greet each other and the priests across the airwaves. During the week hundreds more visit that Mass on the internet, far more than our normal weekend Congregations. Our visitors to our site come from not just the locality, but across the country and around the world. Facebook has proved a challenge to some people so we have set up our own YouTube channel where more people can access recorded Masses. We are also producing resources for the children to be accessed on YouTube.

Parishioners tell us their stories: some get up at 6.00 to share Mass with the Pope from Rome; others attend Mass with our Bishop in Plymouth; others still, surf the world, sharing Mass in their home European Countries, and further afield; there are Catholic tv channels that provide round the clock spiritual input; and websites where people can find prayer and spiritual refresh-ment. There is a new series called ‘The Chosen’ (https://youtu.be/craeyJdrCsE ) which gives a fresh and dynamic view of the life of Christ.

Parishioners have been really creative in using modern means of information and communication to further their faith in Christ. At the recent Deanery Meeting for the priests of Torbay, Zoom (video conferencing) was used to bring the Fathers together. One thing was clear from the meeting, the Church will continue to use modern methods of sharing our church life more widely when Lockdown comes to an end.

We long for the reopening of our churches, and to attend Mass once more. In the meantime the Fathers continue to pray for us in their daily Mass.

If you would like to share your spiritual journey under lockdown please do email the church with your stories.
