TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you (Exodus 24:3-8). Psalm — I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord (Psalm 116). . Second Reading — Christ is the mediator of a new covenant (Hebrews 9:11-15). Gospel — This is my body. This is my blood (Mark 14:12-16, 22-26). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved. This weekend we reverence the abiding and real presence of Jesus with us in the Eucharist as we celebrate the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. Our prayer with and for each other is that we all truly become what we eat and drink - the living presence of God’s love for this world that is ours to touch. In our strength, we carry those who feel the burden of life; in our need, we realize that no one need travel their life’s journey alone. It is in this ‘giving and receiving’ connection of love and concern that the Body of Christ becomes present for us. Look at those around you and see the face of God’s love there for you; reach out with a smile and sincere wish for ‘peace’ as you touch the person next to you. It is significant that we recognize the work of the retired priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago this weekend with our prayer and financial support. The normal retirement age for Chicago priests is 70. Close to 125 retired priests continue to celebrate Sunday Mass in some parish every week. Our own Fr. Bill O’Mara has faithfully served St. Kieran and St. Agnes as well as Marian Catholic High School. These men of faith represent more than ¼ of all the priests serving in the Archdiocese. Millions of dollars will be needed in the coming years to bring the priests’ pension fund to its appropriate funding levels. Please try to be as generous as you can be with the 2nd collection we will take up today to support this need. Father Tom K. P.S. We also want to congratulate Fr. Chris Promis as he celebrates the 50 th anniversary of his ordination. We have been blessed to have him with us during this time of Father John’s sabbatical. May God’s Spirit continue to fill him to overflowing with joy and wonder as he continues in his ministry. The evangelization of the ‘poor’ is our purpose. Therefore we go especially to people, groups and individuals who have not yet heard the message of the Gospel or who have scarcely heard it, to those whose needs are the greatest, and to the oppressed. We also willingly accept tasks for which the Church has difficulty in finding workers. Spiritan Rule of Life, chap1, no. 4 Notes from Fr. First Reading — This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you (Exodus 24:3-8).

Psalm — I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord (Psalm 116). .

Second Reading — Christ is the mediator of a new covenant (Hebrews 9:11-15).

Our own Fr. Extraordinary Ministers of Communion

This weekend our Extraordinary Ministers of Communion (known as “Communion Ministers) will receive a special blessing and their Mandate Certificates at all of the Masses. Communion Ministers are trained and mandated to distribute the Blessed Sacrament at the parish Masses, both weekday and weekend. Communion Ministers have been through training to prepare them for this very sacred ministry. Their training consists of presentations on the following: Theology, history, and devotion to the Eucharist, an on-going exploration of how baptism calls us to serve, and continuing assistance in fostering a well-rounded spirituality of the Eucharist. In addition, our Communion Ministers receive training in the proper manner of distributing the Body of Christ, under both species, to the parishioners of St. Kieran Church. Once this training is complete and a Certificate has been issued, the minister is Mandated to Serve by the Archdiocesan Office of Divine Worship. This requires commitment and dedication. Please thank those who are in this ministry and let them know how important their service is to the parish: Susan Alessandrini, Dona Amadio, Emily Amadio, Mary Ellen Ayala, Keith Betton, Ray Brower, Connie Bultema, Noreen Bussey, Gina Caffarini, Barbara Cianchetti, Sandra Ciccotelli, Joan Cliff, Natalee Cuti, Kevin Deenihan, Ginny Dillon, Maura Flanigan, Debbie Fleisher, Barbara Fonfara, Ann Marie Gornick, Sister Ida Green, Sue Habegger, Sandy Haggerty, Patricia Hand, Karlene Henshaw, Lynn Hume, John Jaworski, Amanda Klopp, Teri Klopp, Mary Labelle, Jean Lendi, Deborah Linde, Charles Lofrano, Carla Lofrano, Judy Longo, Ron Magnabosco, Anna Maxwell, Gordon Moberg, Tom Narcissi, Briana Narcissi, Judi Patzelt, Harry Rogers, Rick Schulp, Jean Schulp, Stan Skalski, Peg Skalski, Barbara Stallings, Betty Staniszewski, Barbara Sterning, Dawn Sterning, Brenda Wesley, and James Wood. We thank them for their generosity of spirit! We are always looking for those whom the Lord is calling to serve. If you are interested in joining this ministry, please contact the Rectory Office. Please keep in mind that Communion Ministers, after training, may choose to become Ministers of Care visiting the sick and homebound of the parish.

By Your Baptism, You Have Been Called! We are called, by virtue of our baptism, to share the gifts that we have with all of our brothers and sisters. In fact, when we do not share what we have, our conscience tells us that we need to change our lives. St. Kieran Parish is blessed with parishioners that show great generosity, not only to the parish family, but to all in need. The response to our many outreach events (Food Drive, Giving Tree, Catholic Charities, and St. Kieran Cares) has been phenomenal! Do you know that we are the top donating church to the Catholic Charities Food Pantry at St. Irenaeus? We are, and they are very grateful for our loving response. We are seeking additional members to be a part of the Outreach Committee, which is the group that organizes the different charitable events that help others. This group is made up of parishioners who currently handle these events—we would like to invite you to take a part! Deacon Emil Vasek is the chairperson of this group and calls a meeting usually once every six to eight weeks to evaluate past events, discuss status of current events, and look to the future to see what needs to be done. Our next meeting is scheduled for June 30 at 6 PM in the Day Chapel (Church.) Meetings usually last about an hour. Please pray about joining this group over the next few weeks. If you would like to know more about the Outreach Committee, we invite you to join in this meeting—you do not have to make a commitment, just come to find out what we do. May God bless you for your continuing support of St. Kieran Parish and those in need.
