Mass Intentions - Nov 4-10

May God protect our members who serve in the armed forces and return them safely to their families: ARMY: Staff Sgt. Jennifer (Clough) Korfmacher, COAST GUARD: Ensign Allison Rychtanek, AIR FORCE: Major Victoria L. Cramer

Lord, Hear our Prayer.

Please notify the Parish office if a parishioner is seriously ill or becomes unable to attend Mass for an extended period of time.

TREASURES from our TRADITION

Every week, some treasures from our tradition are shared here. Where does all this history come from? The history of God’s people of prayer is always coming to light, mostly because scholars have dedi-cated their lives to research. They translate and ponder prayers and songs; explore the places used for worship; look at the vessels, books, and vestments; and read works from legal documents to let-ters and diaries. In the 1930s, Hitler’s rush to arm Germany closed seminaries as priests and seminarians alike were drafted into service. One professor, Father Josef Jungman, forced from his classroom, spent the war years in an Austrian library. His careful work disclosed much of what we know of the history of the Mass. His great work, The Mass of the Roman Rite, describes the evolution of Eucharistic cele-bration and inspired generations of scholars to explore a tradition surprisingly rich and varied. It was said of him that he had a command of the past that cast new light on the present, and opened up a clear direction to the future. His contributions to the Second Vatican Council helped shape the way that we worship today. At the end of his life, in 1975, his studies completed, he told a friend that he was waiting pa-tiently for the Lord’s knock at the door to take him to the heavenly banquet. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

The Heavenly Dusters, a group of dedicated parishioners who serve our Parish by cleaning the Church every week, is asking for volunteers to help with their efforts. The group meets every Friday, immediately following the 8 am morning Mass to dust, vacuum, polish, sweep, etc. so that we enjoy a clean and tidy worship space for our weekend Liturgies. The Heavenly Dusters reduce our parish’s opera-tional expenses by thousands of dollars per year and we are most thankful for their sacrifice. However, as the saying goes, “Many hands make light work.”. Are you available for 1 hour per week on Friday mornings? If so, your help would be most welcome. Contact the parish office @ 847-468-6900 for more information.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Located at 5250 Justin Road in La Crosse Wisconsin. The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe serves tens of thousands of pilgrims every year. Pilgrims have daily opportuni-ties to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and attend Mass, spend time in quiet prayer, walk the beautiful Meditation Trail and contemplate the dignity of life in the Memorial to the Unborn. Many who visit do so to honor our Blessed Mother and rededicate their lives to God. “Kathy and I find it to be something quite special. We have visited the Shrine on a number of occasions and it is truly a beautiful and very spiritual sur-rounding.”
